— Eating in fast food restaurants is an everyday reality for many children and their parents. Telling parents to introduce healthy foods into their children’s diets is neither encouraging for the child nor simple for the parent Says Brian Wansink, professor of marketing at Cornell, director of Cornell Food and Brand Lab, and co-author of the study. – Advise parents to ask their child ‘What would Batman eat?’ could be a real step towards creating a healthier variety of fast food. The study was published in the journal Pediatric Obesity under the title «What would Batman eat? Getting children to choose healthier fast food. » Wasink, together with research fellow Mitsuru Shimizu and a student Guido Camps from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, conducted a study in which twenty-two children aged six to twelve during a summer camp were asked if they would prefer apple or traditional fries. 45% of children chose apple fries after seeing pictures of superheroes and other idols, while 9% chose apple fries without hero photos.
