Children’s books: a taste for reading to better learn to read
Reading is one of the keys to success. To read stories to your child is to transmit to him the love of words. Upon entering primary school, the child learns to read on his own and sometimes discovers a passion for words. A source of emotions and pleasure, reading helps children to gain autonomy… and to dream.
The pleasure of reading
Reading is fantastic because it highly promotes the development of a child. It is also a source of pleasure since the stories that reading allows to discover are perfectly adapted to the young reader.
Parents can make them want to read their little one very early on so that, as soon as they have acquired sufficient maturity, they can devour short stories on their own. The ideal is that he has access at any time to all the books intended for him. Stories awaken children’s imaginations, picture books develop language and help fight against language disorders, and some books dramatically increase the child’s knowledge.
Reading with your child: a moment of complicity
Each day, the parents, in turn, can reserve a special moment during which they read a story to their child. This parenthesis, as playful as it is comforting, is a moment of sharing and complicity. It allows the child to develop his imagination and his curiosity, to enrich his vocabulary and to increase his level of concentration.
It can be at bedtime of course, but not only. Giving the little one a moment to read before the evening meal is to give him the opportunity to relieve the pressure of a very active day. He will therefore, lulled by his father’s voice or his mother’s voice, find the calm necessary to take his meal calmly.
The awakening of the child, ideal thanks to reading
Books for toddlers are essential learning materials. Subsequently, the child discovers through reading the world around him and other universes than his own. By identifying with different characters, he develops the level of perception of his emotions and learns to channel them better because he understands them. Reading allows him to discover himself and then to build himself up and express what he feels or what he imagines. Talking with him about the story just read helps him not to be passive. This develops its responsiveness.
At what age should you teach your child to read?
It is by listening to them that it is possible to detect the best time to teach them to read, on condition that they always respect their rhythm. Each child is different from others, both in terms of ability and maturity.
Some little ones may be able to read very well at 3 or 4 years old, while for others the acquisition of reading is long and difficult even after 6 years. Responding to demand means above all adapting to the needs and tastes of the child. This is the best way to encourage his curiosity and satisfy his thirst for learning without ever forcing it.
Reading helps prepare for the child’s future
Before entering CP, learning to read can only be a pleasure if the child himself has clearly expressed the desire and desire to do so. Reading then becomes constructive and truly positive. It facilitates the ability to learn, and gives the child every chance of succeeding in schooling. It also allows him to gain autonomy because it is very motivating for a child to learn on his own.
When parents or grandparents have taken the time to read him stories from the first days, he will quickly want to know how to read on his own. Reading early helps you read better and easily understand the meaning of words. In addition to developing memory, reading allows children to take an interest in very diverse subjects and to discover passions. This is how, over time, he will be able to enrich his knowledge, his culture and promote his intellectual development. Then, when he is older, it will allow him to project himself into the future more easily.
A child’s curiosity for reading is completely natural. Responding positively to them as parents means giving them every chance of gradually becoming an open, fulfilled and happy man or woman.
