On December 21 in Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar and Anapa, the Safe Environment children’s program was launched. Woman’s Day spoke with the creators of the program and learned how to protect the life of a child in the modern world.

Children’s safety on the road

The Safe Environment project was initiated by the Regional Resource Center for Violence Prevention and is supported by Gazprom Invest. The program includes two parts – the safety of children on the roads and safety on the Internet. This is the largest-scale training of children in traffic rules and safe behavior in an urban environment in southern Russia at the moment. More than 5000 children from 7 to 10 years old are taking part in the project. In a playful interactive form, children are taught the basics of traffic rules and are told about common mistakes in behavior on the road.

“Almost from the doorway of the house, the child becomes a participant in the road traffic. To organize the process of teaching children safety skills on the streets, we have developed this system of classes, – says Aleksey Panchenko, teacher and expert of the Safe Environment program. “However, I would like to emphasize that the problems of child safety start with upbringing. Parents should devote more time to the child, explaining important topics to him. It should be borne in mind that a child at home, a child on the street and a child at school are three completely different people. This makes it very difficult to work with children. It is necessary to increase the responsibility of parents for upbringing. The child needs to be influenced, conveyed to him that it is right to be yourself in any situation. And, importantly, pay more attention to his life. Many parents now simply “hand over” their children to schools with a sigh of relief, and in the evening they do not even look into the diaries of their children. The situation needs to be corrected. There will be no indifference – there will be security. In addition, I believe that traffic police officers should work with children, who, unfortunately, do not show much initiative. “

“Parents should not completely blame their child for road safety, especially when it comes to children 7–8 years old and younger,” says Elena Zolotilova, President of the Regional Resource Center for Violence Prevention and expert trainer of the Safe Environment program … – Most road accidents last year were caused by pedestrians. But this does not mean that we can say that the child is to blame for the accident. The fault lies entirely with the parents. It was they who did not create a safe environment, did not teach. Traffic rules must be submitted to the child in an accessible form. This should not be edification or, even worse, intimidation, which will undoubtedly cause protest in the child. The ideal option is a game form. We need to make traffic rules interesting for children. “

Children’s safety on the Internet

The second part of the Safe Environment program is responsible for the information security of children. The purpose of seminars, trainings and open lessons is to explain to children how to behave correctly on the Internet.

“Today the world is divided into two parts: online and offline, the Internet and our daily life,” says Elena Zolotilova. – The advent of the Internet has made our life much easier. With it, you can search for people, share files, make purchases, study. However, such a large amount of resources also entails danger.

Our children are at risk on a daily basis. First, on the Internet, a child can easily find texts, pictures, video files that promote violence and aggression. Secondly, online he may be harassed and harassed: the so-called “recruiters” find their victims, get to know them, pretending to be fictitious names and not giving their real age. These people can involve the child in an environment of violence, including sexual violence. It is far from a secret that pornography, drug trafficking and other criminal offenses are widespread on the Internet. Children from disadvantaged families and orphanages are most often at risk here.

However, in a number of cases, children from wealthy, complete families, but left to their own devices due to the constant employment of their parents, are also involved in crimes.

Among other things, cyber addiction can pose a danger to a child. It is divided into several types: cybersex addiction, addiction to virtual communication and dating, gambling addiction, financial, that is, the need to make purchases and information overload, that is, constant presence in the network without significant reasons. “

How can you prevent such situations?

“In order to ensure the information security of children, of course, we first need to work with their parents. There are special rules for finding children on the Internet, which must be conveyed to the child in an accessible form.

So, children should not download and install software without parental permission. You shouldn’t socialize, let alone meet strangers. There is no need to open letters that came from an unfamiliar address. It is advisable to come up with secure logins and passwords that the child should keep secret even from his best friends.

It is necessary to explain to children that they should be polite when visiting different sites and communicating with other users. If a child wants to buy something on the Internet, then he must certainly ask the parents for permission. And of course, if someone offended a child online, he should immediately tell his father and mother about it. “
