Breastfeeding is a natural activity that is a unique and beautiful period in a woman’s life. Sometimes this period is associated with many dilemmas and difficulties, especially when the nursing mother struggles with sore and cracked nipples or lactation problems. Breastfeeding problems can be solved by the lactation shells.
What are lactation shells?
Breast shells are a practical accessory for a breastfeeding woman. Their name is not accidental and results from their shell-like shape. The material from which the breast shells are made is usually silicone, so they can be used many times. Due to their construction, the breast shells can be successfully worn during the day, as they provide comfort in everyday functioning and, due to the fact that they are put under the bra, are imperceptible. Breast shells are available not only in pharmacies, but also in stationary stores with accessories for mothers and children, and in online stores. The use of breast shells is very simple, because the only thing you need to do is insert them into your bra, placing the nipple inside the opening of the breast cup. It is very important to take care of hygiene when using breast shells and wash them thoroughly before putting them on to protect the breasts from pathogenic microorganisms. Insufficient hygiene can cause medical conditions that prevent a mother from breastfeeding her baby.
The use of lactation shells
Breast shells mainly protect the breasts. Thanks to their structure, they are gentle to the skin and adapt to the shape of the breast. Breast shells are also a great way to collect excess milk not only during feeding, but also in the event of spontaneous milk flow during lactation stabilization. They are also irreplaceable in the case of the flooding of food that occurs in mothers in the first good after childbirth. Nipple shells are used in which women’s nipples are concave or flat. Their corrective function allows the nipples to form safely, making breastfeeding easier. Breast shells help to inhibit the formation of swelling and improve the treatment of damaged nipples.
Types of lactation shells
The selection of lactation shells should begin with defining the problem faced by a woman during breastfeeding. Types of breast shells are used in various problems such as inverted and flat nipples, excessive lactation or sore nipples. The most common types of breast shells are ventilated and non-ventilated. In the case of ventilated shells, they are characterized by special holes to ensure adequate air flow and protect the nipples against abrasion. Ventilated breast shells by applying gentle pressure, inhibit the formation of swelling and accelerate the healing of cracked and irritated nipples. The second type of lactation shells, i.e. non-ventilated shells, has no openings and is used primarily by women with increased lactation. Thanks to their structure, they allow you to collect excessive amounts of food and affect the comfort of a nursing woman.
