The peach-leaved bell is a perennial plant, it got its name for its similarity to peach leaves. Bells grow in meadows, along roads and ravines, but due to their unpretentious care, cultivation, bright and continuous flowering, they are popular with gardeners. Many varieties of bells are rare in the wild and are listed in the Red Book.
The plant with narrow jagged leaves and beautiful delicate flowers reaches a height of 1 meter and will be a wonderful decoration for any garden. Flowers, depending on the variety, can have different shades: white, purple, blue or blue, up to 5 cm in diameter. Flowers are collected in a small brush of 4-8 bell-shaped flowers. The flowering period continues continuously throughout the summer season. At the beginning of September, small boxes with seeds appear in place of faded flowers. The plant has a spindle-shaped twisted root system, an erect stem, glabrous or with few leaves.
The bell has a wide variety of varieties, which allows it to be used in various compositions as a decorative element for a garden plot
Among the distinctive characteristics in the description of the peach-leaved bell, it is worth noting that the plant has medicinal properties, its root and flowers are used in folk medicine:
- removes inflammatory processes;
- reduces pain;
- helps in the treatment of sore throats;
- promotes hair growth.
The flower is resistant to frost, drought, pests and grows well on loamy soil. For its ability to self-sowing, it is classified as a weed, but young shoots are well removed and do not cause much trouble.
Planting a peach-leaved bell is not difficult, since it is photophilous, it is advisable to place it on the sunny side. Not picky about the soil, but prefers a well-loose, drained and humus-rich soil. It is necessary to sow seeds in the middle of spring for seedlings, having made a pick in July, they can be planted in a flower bed. The bell begins to bloom only the next year after planting. In order for the plant to bloom and develop well, the faded shoots should be removed, and in the fall, the aerial part of the bush should be cut off.
The plant lives for 3 years, the stems soon die off. With good care of the roots, many full-fledged offspring grow, with which you can propagate the plant in spring. And so that it does not disappear completely, it must be done every three years.
The peach-leaved bell looks good on an alpine hill among stones, in a flower bed, along curbs. A small island of delicate flowers will look dazzling if you plant it on the lawn. A wild plant will be a wonderful decorative decoration and will fill your home garden with special comfort.
