😉 Greetings to my regular and new readers! Let’s take a walk around Barcelona? There is a lot to be said about this beautiful city, but we will see the main attractions of Barcelona, it will be interesting for you!
I’ve heard a lot about Barcelona, but when I got to this amazing city I was shocked! There is an indescribable atmosphere and friendly Catalans. It’s a shame that my husband and I stayed here for only a few days – this is where our Mediterranean cruise began. I really hope to come back here!
We were lucky we got to Barcelona on September 11, a holiday – the national day of Catalonia! Houses and streets are decorated with national Catalan flags.
We stayed in a modest but very interesting hotel “Peninsular” 1 * not far from La Rambla boulevard. There was a monastery in this building more than 100 years ago. There are no TVs or refrigerators in the rooms. But free wi-fi and everything is very cool! Continental breakfast, conditioner, change of linen and towels daily, soap, shampoo. 🙂 Cleanliness!
Barcelona is one of the largest cities in Spain, the capital of Catalonia and an interesting tourist center. Barcelona has an incredible number of famous landmarks.
What attracts attention here is the neighborhood of old buildings with modern buildings, wide streets and huge, but cozy squares. Taxis here are black and white and there is an explanation for this. The answer is in the article “Interesting questions and answers”.
A beautiful and cozy city combines different eras and styles, here anyone will find something interesting for themselves.
The main attractions of Barcelona
Area of catalonia
It is best to start your walk through the sights of Barcelona from Plaça Catalunya. The center of the square is crowned with a magnificent fountain, and ancient statues are located along its perimeter. In the evening, street performers can be seen performing in Plaça Catalunya.

Two of Barcelona’s largest and most popular streets originate from Plaza Catalunya. This is the Passeig de Gràcia, the avenue where the most famous brand stores are located. The second is La Rambla street. It is built in the image of the French boulevards and is the “heart” of the old city.

On the pedestrian street La Rambla, there are many cafes, souvenir and flower shops, musicians and talented artists.
Boqueria market
Walking along La Rambla, you cannot pass by the largest market in Barcelona – Boqueria. At this place, the market has existed since the 13th century! This place is simply amazing with its color. It sells locally produced goods for which Spain is famous. This market is included in the main attractions of Barcelona.
Walking a little further along La Rambla, you can get to the Gothic Quarter. Many buildings and streets in this quarter were built in the 14-15th centuries. and this is of particular historical value.
Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia
The main masterpiece of the Gothic Quarter is the Cathedral (built 1298-1420), which is mesmerizing with its beauty. The full name is the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia. It is the seat of the Archbishop of Barcelona and the main cathedral of the city.

Surprisingly, 13 white geese live in the courtyard of the Cathedral. White birds symbolize the purity of Saint Eulalia. She was only 13 years old when she was martyred by the pagans. Therefore, there are exactly thirteen geese here.
Hill and fountain of Montjuic
When visiting Barcelona, you cannot ignore the Montjuïc hill. There is the Spanish Village, the Olympic Stadium and the Magic Fountain, which is also called “Singing”. Each performance of the “singing” fountain of Montjuic is an enchanting show of music, light and water.
Sagrada Familia
The Sagrada Familia, the Sagrada Familia, rightfully belongs to the main attraction of Barcelona. The construction of this amazing building began in 1882 and is still not completed. Many call this temple a cathedral, but this is a mistake. Gaudí was building the Temple!
The main architect of the Temple is Antoni Gaudi, who devoted 40 years of his life to the construction of this masterpiece. Unfortunately, he managed to master only one facade. Antonio Gaudi himself wished that after his death the Temple would not stop building. Now it is the brainchild of many other architects.
Sagrada Familia is a unique building in terms of architecture. Each new architect contributes to its construction. Each facade here carries its own meaning, conveying some of its own, special, story from the life of Christ.

All this is conveyed by the most interesting bas-reliefs. The temple is called expiatory, so its construction takes place only with donations from parishioners and tourists.
Casa Batlló
The most recognizable and famous house in the city is Casa Batlló. This house was built in 1877 for the textile magnate Josep Batlló y Casanovas and rebuilt by the architect Antoni Gaudí in 1904-1906.
A feature of the Casa Batlló is the almost complete absence of straight lines in its design, as in all of Gaudí’s creations.
