Cocktail “Aviation” [Drinks Cheers!]

Cocktail history Aviation

There are two versions of the creation of the Aviation cocktail. According to one of them, the first pilots-aviators drank it to overcome the fear of being lifted into the air.

According to another, which is considered the main one and looks more real, this cocktail was invented by the head bartender of one of the wealthy New York hotels named Hugo Enslinn at the very beginning of the 1911th century. In this hotel, a cocktail began to be served in 1916, and in 30 its recipe was first described – a quarter ounce of gin, three quarters of lemon juice, two parts of Maraschino liqueur and two parts of purple Crème de Violet, thanks to which the soft blue color of the drink is obtained. In the 60s of the last century, Creme de Violet became a rarity in the United States, and by the XNUMXs it had completely disappeared. The cocktail lost its popularity due to the sour taste.

This continued until 2007, when the production of purple liqueur began again, and thanks to the Internet, the original Aviation recipe became popular again.
