A new life of old bread, which manifests itself in a sleeping drink, is now possible in the United States. It was there that the production of Misadventure Vodka, which is obtained from completely processed food waste, began.
This idea was brought to life by the Americans Sam Chereskin and Whit Rigali. They came up with the idea of distilling almost dried bread, bagels, and cakes into alcohol.
Their distillery harvests up to 1200 pounds (about 544 kg) of dry baked goods. Of course, this is not some suspicious bread from the trash can. Raw materials are sourced from the local food bank.
And from such uneaten bread, vodka is obtained. Bread and baked goods are mixed and softened; then yeast is added to start the fermentation process. The production of each bottle of Misadventure vodka takes about a kilogram of food waste.
The taste of vodka is special and often unique – the drink has a sweet note. Sam and Whit say it’s possible to get vodka flavored with bagels or chocolate cake.
By the way, this kind of ingredient makes alcohol cheaper. Plus, this eco-vodka helps solve the huge food waste problem that is acute in the United States.
