All your life you have washed yourself wrong! 7 mistakes no one knows about
Take a shower … It seems to be a common procedure that only benefits. But sometimes a hygiene procedure can seriously harm.
Every day, a person automatically performs many tasks, the significance of which hardly any of us thinks about. One of these tasks is washing in the shower. What can be difficult here? And how can such a simple procedure harm our body and organism? But dermatologists offer several recommendations, from water temperature to proper hygiene products, in order to turn your routine into a real skincare routine.
The main rules of personal hygiene in the shower: the most common mistakes, and how not to make them
1. Don’t make the water too hot
We all know that a hot shower after a long and tiring day at work is the best way to quickly recover and feel better. A morning shower is the perfect way to cheer up on a cold winter morning. But it turns out that hot water has a very negative effect on skin health. It removes the natural oils needed to maintain a healthy moisture and trace mineral balance from the skin’s surface. Prefer warm water for your daily rituals.
2. Reduce shower time
Dermatologists recommend taking a full shower (with soap, a washcloth and special care) no more than 3-4 times a week, so as not to wash the beneficial oils from the skin and replace them with chemical creams. But if we face it, from the point of social activity and distance, such an approach can cause inconvenience to others and put us in a very stupid position. Therefore, it will be optimal to simply reduce the time spent in the shower to a few minutes. However, a doctor and professor at the Yale School of Public Health described in one of his books an experiment to abandon the traditional daily wash with soap and a loofah. To everyone’s surprise, he noted that the skin not only became more elastic, but also acquired a healthy color, without irritation and redness. And the most surprising thing was the fact of reducing the unpleasant odor from the body. The scientist claims that this was due to the return to natural balance.
3. Replace unsuitable skin hygiene products
Pay attention to your bathroom shelf. What funds can be found there? Bright and fragrant shower gels seem so attractive to us, and washing with such products always cheers up! Now look at the chemical composition of these wonderful products: sulfates, preservatives, colors and flavors. No dermatologist would call all these substances sparing. They can cause not only allergic reactions, rashes and redness, but also exacerbation of skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis and acne.
More microbes live on the surface of our skin, similar to the intestines. And these are not uninvited guests who need to get rid of, but protectors of our skin from the penetration of various pathogens. These same skin microbes contribute to the synthesis of collagen and hyaluronic acid to maintain the elasticity and youth of the skin. Do not rush to wash off natural helpers and buy expensive cosmetic products with the same properties! When choosing shower products, pay attention to products with an oil base and a pH level not higher than 5,5 (usually indicated on the package). A Canadian dermatologist recommends detergents based on propylene glycol and cetyl alcohol. Using these formulations at first can cause a number of unpleasant emotions, because you will not get the usual lather from them. However, the undoubted advantage is that they cleanse the skin surface without violating the integrity of lipids.
4. Replace the loofah and razor
This fact has already been taken into account by many, because it is a washcloth and a razor in the shower that can cause skin infection. Long-term use of the same washcloth and improper storage turns it into a breeding ground for dangerous bacteria.
Do not leave the washcloth in a wet shower after use.
Take it out and dry thoroughly.
Wash your washcloth at least once a week.
Pay attention to the cleanliness of your shaver. It not only comes into contact with your skin, but can also cause micro-damage. Therefore, often the use of an insufficiently clean razor leads to a skin disease such as folliculitis.
Optimal use of one razor blade for no more than 2 months, if you shave daily, then no more than a month. The razor then becomes hazardous to the health of the skin.
5. Give up the use of scrubbing agents
Advertising and the media have long convinced us of the benefits of using a variety of skin scrubs. They remove dead skin cells from the surface, helping to make it smoother. However, too diligently “polishing” the skin leads to a violation of the skin barrier, resulting in inflammation and irritation.
If you cannot live without scrubs, then you better do them yourself. For example, based on ground coffee and honey or flour from oatmeal and salt. After 10 days of application, the skin will thank you.
6. Pay attention to the rug near the shower
Bathroom floors are quite slippery and many are injured by stepping on tiles with wet feet. Consider this by replacing all, albeit beautiful, but unstable objects with stable ones: in interior stores there is a huge assortment of rugs that will provide you with a stable surface.
7. Cluttered shelves are a friend of mold
Alas, girls love to buy more and more shower products without completely using the old ones. As a result, the bathroom becomes a place of accumulation of not only bottles, but also mold, which forms due to high humidity.
Make a rule: buy a new product only when the old one has ended, or put in a dry cabinet what you do not want to use.
