Briefly about the drink
Gordon’s dry gin (dry gin) – the phenomenon is far from unambiguous. Some consider it a textbook, classic, reliable and predictable drink. For others, it seems boring, mediocre, typical and faceless. At the same time, it is this drink, in view of its perhaps not entirely deserved popularity, that often becomes the first acquaintance from a diverse gin family for some and for others.

A few words about gin
Compared to a number of British (and not only British) juniper drinks, the composition of Gordon’s gin does not have any special zest or pleasantly striking eccentricity.
The drink includes only such more than traditional ingredients as juniper berries, licorice, orris root and angelica, coriander seeds, as well as lemon and orange zest.
True, the manufacturer producing Gordon’s gin (and today it is the international multi-brand Diagio) claims that the secret of the mentioned drink lies not in the components themselves, but in their proportions.
It is believed that only twelve people know the secret of the ratios of the components of this British drink today.
And so that this amount, God forbid, does not increase due to competitors, the discarded production waste is specially mixed with additional batches of processed raw materials added in an arbitrary amount.
How many degrees in Gordon’s gin
Like many other British junipers, Gordon’s gin has a strength that is different for “friends” and “strangers”. True, “strangers” in this case are different.
The version supplied to the domestic market contains 37,5 degrees of alcohol.
In turn, the strength of the export product, intended for continental Europe and the international network of duty free, reaches 47,3 degrees.
A drink produced for South Africa boasts only 43 revolutions.
The strength of gin sold in Australia and New Zealand is only 37,2 degrees, which would be unacceptable from the point of view of European legislation.
By the way, there are also differences in the design of the drink. In its historical homeland, it is sold in special branded green bottles, outside it – in ordinary glass or even plastic containers.
History of Gordon’s Gin
The popular gin brand we are interested in is considered one of the oldest in the world. This drink appeared in 1769. It was created by a Scot who lived in London, Alexander Gordon. Since the famous vertical stills did not yet exist, the purity and high quality of the drink at that time was achieved using triple distillation.
In 1898, the then owners of Gordon’s gin decided to merge their brainchild with the Tanqueray gin company. Thus, the beginning of a century-long process was laid, as a result of which the family distillery, once created by Alexander Gordon, turned out to be part of one of the largest sharks of the modern alcohol world: the Diaggio company. Over this rather long period of time, the solid manufacturer of juniper, beloved by the people, not only turned into a global brand and founded subsidiaries outside the country (in particular, in the USA), but also trodden a direct path to Buckingham Palace.
In 1984, the British distillery, in view of the need to expand production, moved from London to Basilton, located in neighboring Essex. And since 1998, it has been located in the Scottish province of Fife – not far from Edinburgh, which makes it possible to use wonderful water from the artesian sources of patriarchal Caledonia in the manufacture of the drink.
How to drink Gordon’s gin
To answer the question: “how to drink Gordon’s gin?” You don’t have to have the phenomenal quick wits of Sherlock Holmes. It is clear that this unremarkable, but at the same time, high-quality, conscientiously made drink will be an excellent basis for mixes and cocktails.
You can safely mix it with various juices or even soda, keeping the good old one-to-one ratio or some other ratio dear to your heart. The main thing is that the juices taste sour, sour-sweet or bitter. In this case, perfect: cranberry, pineapple, grapefruit, orange, lemon or lime.
Cocktails, in which you can and should use a drink created in the XNUMXth century by Alexander Gordon, simply cannot be counted. Their range extends between the simple and trouble-free “Gin and Tonic” and the intricate “Negroni”.
At the same time, there are cocktails that involve the use of Gordons. An example of such a drink is Florida Special, in which the aforementioned gin is harmoniously combined with ginger lemonade and orange juice.

How to spot a fake Gordon’s gin
In this age of counterfeit alcohol, unfortunately, it is quite easy to run into a banal fake when buying a premium liquor. To protect yourself as much as possible from such an unpleasant incident when buying Gordon’s gin, do not forget to follow a few simple, but time-tested rules.
Label
Read the label carefully. It should be printed in good, clear colors and pasted in a factory way. In addition, the barcode of the country of origin must be displayed on the label (in our case, we are talking about the UK or the USA).
Excise stamp
Do not ignore the excise stamp. It must also be intact, clean and neatly glued.
What’s inside the bottle?
Also take a look at the contents of the bottle. In this situation, selling the export version of the drink in transparent containers will only benefit you. The bottle should contain a crystal clear liquid without the slightest sediment or traces of suspicious turbidity. Agree that a triple distillate, diluted with clean water taken from Scottish artesian sources, should look like this.
Useful properties of Gordon’s gin
Do not forget that the progenitor of the drink we are interested in was still used in medicine juniper tincture. Accordingly, all the healing properties inherent in juniper berries are successfully preserved in the composition of the liquid, which was first born in 1769.
Thus, we can safely say that Gordons, when used wisely, can help stimulate appetite, overcome insomnia, or serve as an excellent, sorry, diuretic.
In addition, the aforementioned gin can be used to combat various colds.
So, a mixture of juniper, honey and onion juice is an excellent remedy for bronchitis.
Onion-juniper decoction is well treated for catarrh of the upper respiratory tract.
And juniper in combination with grated horseradish or lemon juice has proven itself in the treatment of angina.
The main thing is not to forget that, like any alcohol, Gordon’s gin, in the fight against certain diseases, can only be useful in small doses. Otherwise, you will not get a cure, but something completely opposite to it.
