AJPP: what is the daily parental presence allowance?

The daily parental presence allowance is paid to the parent who takes care of his sick, disabled or injured child. This CAF aid compensates for the loss of salary caused by the interruption of professional activity. The amount of the AJPP is calculated per day of absence within the framework of parental presence leave.

What is AJPP?

The AJPP (Allocation Daily de Présence Parentalale) is a financial aid paid by CAF. This benefit is intended for parents who interrupt or reduce their professional activity to stay with their child under the age of 20 suffering from a handicap or a serious illness, or seriously injured.

The parent receives AJPP on a monthly basis. The amount of assistance depends on the number of days the parent has leave, up to a limit of 22 days of compensation per month. The benefit can be granted for a maximum of 310 days spread over 3 years.

As part of the daily parental presence allowance, the parent can benefit from a supplement for expenses, subject to means-tested conditions. This monthly supplement paid by CAF aims to contribute to the expenses incurred by parents and related to the state of health of their child.

What conditions must be met to be entitled to the AJPP?

To benefit from the AJPP, the parent must temporarily cease his activity to take care of his dependent child under the age of 20, and whose state of health requires the presence of the parent. Whether the result of illness, accident or disability, the state of health of the dependent child must be serious. The seriousness is certified by a doctor, who draws up a medical certificate in a sealed envelope after examining the child, and who assesses the foreseeable duration of the care required.

No means test is required for the granting of the daily parental presence allowance. The decision of the CAF is however based on the professional situation of the parent.

Conditions linked to the parent’s professional status

Can request payment of the AJPP:

  • The parent who exercises a salaried activity. In this case, the employee must have obtained parental presence leave from his employer.
  • The self-employed person, the VRP and the home employee employed by an individual.
  • The paid vocational training trainee.
  • The unemployed parent receiving benefits.

Unemployed persons who are not receiving benefits cannot benefit from the daily parental presence allowance.

The rules of non-accumulation

When the parent receives the AJPP, the payment of the following benefits is interrupted:

  • Amounts paid for maternity or paternity leave and sick leave or work accident.
  • Unemployment benefits.
  • Retirement or disability pensions.
  • The shared child education benefit (PreParE) and the free choice of activity supplement (CLCA).
  • L’AAH.
  • The AEEH for the benefit of the child.

The AJPP form: what is required

To apply for the daily parental presence allowance, the parent must provide several supporting documents.

  • A medical certificate in a sealed envelope. The certificate must detail the care required and mention the length of time the parent’s presence is recommended.
  • A certificate of parental presence leave from his employer, if the requesting parent is an employee. A declaration on the honor of interruption of activity if the applicant parent is self-employed.
  • The application form available online on the CAF website (1). Please note, part of the form must be completed by the doctor.

The parent sends all of these documents to CAF. The AJPP request is then examined by the medical check-up of the child’s health insurance fund, and submitted to its favorable opinion.

The duration of the AJPP

The payment of the daily parental presence allowance is provided by CAF for a period of 6 months, renewable within the limit of 3 years. For 3 years, the parent can benefit from a maximum of 310 days of benefits, up to a limit of 22 days per month.

In the event of a new pathology before the end of the 3 years, or in the event of a relapse after 3 years, the parent can again request the AJPP.

The amount of the AJPP

The amount of the AJPP differs depending on the family situation of the applicant:

  • The parent in a couple is entitled to € 43,14 per day, up to a limit of 22 days per month.
  • The parent who lives alone is entitled to € 51,25 per day, up to a limit of 22 days per month.

Parents living as a couple can both benefit from the AJPP, up to a limit of 2 days per month in total.

The amount of the AJPP is increased by a supplement for costs, subject to means-tested. This monthly supplement is paid when the parents incur unreimbursed expenses exceeding € 110,89 per month, in the framework of the care of the seriously ill, disabled or injured child. The flat-rate supplement for costs is € 110,34 per month.
