Advent Calendar 2015: our selection of Christmas calendars

Advent means in Latin “advent”. It corresponds to the period during which the faithful await the coming of Christ among men. Advent season begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas. As for the Advent calendar, he was born in Germany in the 19th century. It would seem that at this time Protestant families used to hang a religious picture on the wall, or give it to their children, during the 24 days before Christmas. There are the “religious” with pretty pious images, the greedy ones with snacks to snack on, the toys with figurines or other playful surprises, and those which are empty, leaving parents the possibility to fill them as they wish.

Each year, children have only one hurry: to be on December 1st to finally open the first window of their Advent calendar. It’s a real ritual to make toddlers wait until Christmas. Small chocolates are still popular with the Kinder advent calendar that we no longer present. But some gourmets do not resist and sometimes eat all the chocolates or candies in a few days!
