Acrylic and polypropylene are chemically extracted materials that are widely used in the manufacture of carpets of all shapes and sizes. In terms of cost, products made of artificial polypropylene and acrylic fibers are cheaper than carpets woven from wool, bamboo or viscose.
Carpets made from natural materials are warmer, but less durable than those made from synthetic components.
Polypropylene thread is a cheap raw material used to make soft coatings. It retains its color throughout the entire life of the product, because the dye is added at the first stage of creating the fibers.
According to reviews, acrylic carpets:
- do not accumulate static electricity;
- give in to dry and wet cleaning (any dirt from the surface of carpets is removed without the use of aggressive detergents);
- poorly absorb liquid;
- hypoallergenic;
- retain the brightness of colors (paints do not fade when exposed to sunlight);
- have a low cost (in comparison with other synthetic and natural carpets).
Consumers also note the disadvantages of polypropylene carpets. They are not environmentally friendly, fire hazardous, quickly crumple and lose their shape. It is recommended to place such products in poorly passable rooms.
Compared to polypropylene carpets, acrylics are warmer and more pleasant to the touch. Their fibers are similar in characteristics to natural woolen threads.
Advantages of acrylic flooring:
- high noise insulation when walking;
- retention of heat;
- hypoallergenicity;
- color preservation;
- resistance to pollution;
- acrylic carpets are not static;
- acceptable price;
- resistance to wetting and mold formation.
The disadvantages include the formation of pellets on the surface of the coating, fragility with intensive use.
When wondering what to buy, an acrylic or polypropylene carpet, remember: artificial fibers were used to create these products.
But acrylic fiber surpasses polypropylene filament in its technical characteristics. Despite the average price category, acrylic carpets remain more in demand than polypropylene carpets.
