5 Ayurvedic ways to lift your spirits

Choose “comfort food”

Comfort food is not the opposite of healthy food. Each of us has individual characteristics and nutritional preferences. Many mistakenly believe that a chocolate bar can make them happier. Yes, maybe, but for a very short time.

There is nothing wrong with getting comfort from food. What you eat can help you see life more clearly, have a clearer mind, live in the present moment, and think of ways to tackle life’s challenges. So what is “comfort food”?

According to Ayurveda, when you eat according to your constitution (doshas) and in the right amount, food becomes medicine. It gives you mental and physical energy and helps stabilize mood swings. Even when you eat foods that cause imbalance, enjoy them! Also, drink plenty of warm water throughout the day. If you haven’t eaten well in the past, your body will need time to adjust to the new diet, but you’ll notice improvements right away. Take the dosha test and find out which foods are right for you and which are not.

Balance Your Energy

When you practice Tree Pose, you increase your focus, strength, balance, grace, and lightness. In addition, you improve the flow of blood in your body, which helps improve your mood.

How to do the asana:

  1. Hold on to the back of a chair with your hands if you find it difficult to balance.

  2. Feel your feet rooted in the ground. Be aware of the leg muscles and feel that your spine is lengthened. The top of the head should be directed to the ceiling and rush to the sky.

  3. Shift your weight onto your left foot, notice how firmly it is planted on the ground.

  4. Inhale using your abdominal muscles as you lift your right leg off the floor and place it on your left thigh or knee to form a triangle.

  5. Take a deep breath and fix your gaze on a point in front of you. Inhale and exhale through the nose, passing air through the chest into the stomach.

  6. Mentally focus on the strength of your left leg, the softness and stability of your gaze, and the joy of balancing.

  7. Stretch your arms up over your head. Take a couple of deep breaths in and out and close your palms. Fix the position for a few breaths and exhalations

  8. Slowly lower your arms and place your right foot on the ground.

Pay attention to how you feel after the asana. Can you feel the difference between one side of the body and the other? Do the same for the other side of the body.

When you do tree pose, remember that this is not a test. Be light. If you find it difficult to balance the first, second, or even third time, this is normal. The goal is to practice the asana with ease and pleasure. Over time, you will be able to balance better.

Take a tea break

Often we do not see the root of the problem because of our experiences, giving them too much meaning. In moments when your mood drops below the baseboard, make it a practice to drink a cup of your favorite tea that can return you to a sense of comfort. Many manufacturers make high-quality teas with spices in bags, which greatly facilitates the process of tea drinking. Choose your favorite blends and keep them at home and at work so you can take a tea break at any time and improve your mood. You can also find out which herbs suit your constitution and use them for imbalances.

Write down what you would like to do

Writing down your desires is a very good practice that helps you get distracted and readjust. But you can record even simple things like going to the movies or going to the sea. Write down what you want to do and then the steps you need to take to make it happen. Decide when and at what time you would like to do it. You can even prescribe what clothes you will be wearing! The main thing is to write and think over your actions.

Get up and shake

Stand up straight and feel your strong legs on the ground. Then lift one leg and shake it well as you take three breaths in and out. If you find it difficult to balance on one leg, hold on to the back of a chair. After you shake both legs, shake your hands in the same pattern. In this way, you can push out negative energy from yourself and recharge with positive and pure. You will notice that your mood will instantly improve.
