Excess weight is the cause of the mass complexes of overweight people. Many of them believe that if they had a slim figure, life would be much better. Depression, self-doubt and fear of getting naked on the beach are true friends of all fat women and fat men.
Especially for them, we have collected a dozen motivating films, the main characters of which do not worry about extra pounds and live well with them: they find love, build a career and have children.
10 Treasure | 2009

She is expelled from school, her mother mocks her, her first child has Down’s syndrome. If you look at it, then being overweight is the least of the girl’s problems, but it also gives her a lot of inconvenience.
With the help of a teacher at a new school and her own willpower, she begins to make progress in her studies and has every chance to go to college.

9. Love is evil | 2001
The Farrelly brothers’ romantic comedy introduces the viewer to a man named Hal (Jack Black), who, like most men, loves slender women. At the same time, he sincerely wants to learn to see, first of all, inner beauty, so he turns to a psychologist.
The doctor hypnotizes him, “programming” him not to notice external flaws. After that, Hal meets Rosemary (Gwyneth Paltrow), whom he sees as a beauty due to hypnosis, although in fact she is very fat.
Only at the end, already in love, Hal finds out what his chosen one really is.
8. Ruthless people | 1986
A comedy with a cleverly twisted plot that can pleasantly surprise you.
At first glance, everything is banal: the millionaire decides to kill his fat bitch wife, while having a beautiful mistress, but his plans are not destined to come true.
Kidnapping, ransom demand, blackmail, a maniac who entered the wrong house – all this is organically woven into the narrative.
As a result, the fat woman changes a lot, and the negligent spouse, who has conceived evil, becomes a victim himself.
7. The Nutty Professor | 1996
Comedy starring Eddie Murphy is a remake of the 1963 film of the same name, and a very successful remake.
The main character is a fat and clumsy professor who dreamed of becoming a basketball player. He has already lost hope for a sports career, but he still wants to lose weight and even creates a remedy in his laboratory.
Having fallen in love with his colleague, he takes a risk and takes an unfinished drug that has a magical effect. The elixir turns him into a slender, charming and impudent man who is completely devoid of complexes.
Despite the temptation of this effect, it is quite difficult to live on two personalities.
6. food corporation | 2009
From comedies and dramas, let’s move on to the only documentary on our list that caused a whole storm of emotions.
The film tells about the technologies for the production of meat, grain and other food, exposing all the inhumanity and environmental friendliness of the process.
The film received a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of release, and its tagline “You will never look at your dinner the same way” is absolutely correct.
5. The mirror has two faces | 1996
The comedy melodrama with Jeff Bridges and Barbara Streisand (she also acted as a director) tells about a rather unusual couple.
A lonely professor finds a mate through a newspaper dating column – a teacher from the same university as him. He believes that all the problems in relationships are due to sex, so he offers his lover to marry him, but at the same time live without intimacy.
The woman at first agrees, but then begins to complex: it seems to her that he does not want her because of her excess weight and other shortcomings. Taking advantage of his long business trip, she loses weight, changes her hair and wardrobe, having met her lover completely changed.

After tears and depression, she decides to lose weight and meets a friend in misfortune – a guy named Kolya, who is also tired of being fat. This acquaintance helps the girl not only to return an excellent figure, but also to radically change in her soul, reconsidering her views on life values.
Despite the fact that this is a Russian comedy, it turned out pretty good, without an abundance of vulgar jokes and stupid moments (although they are still present).
2. Diary of Bridget Jones | 2001
The film adaptation of Helen Fielding’s novel of the same name, starring Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, fits this list perfectly.
The main character is a woman in her early 30s, suffering from loneliness and fullness. She decides to quit smoking and start losing weight in order to find a decent man, but in the end she attracts two at once.
The appointment of Zellweger for the main role caused a wave of indignation among the fans of the book original, since the actress had a very ordinary figure, but for the sake of filming, Rene gained more than 10 extra pounds and perfectly got used to the image.
1. 200 pounds of beauty | 2005
Let’s end on an exotic note with a South Korean rom-com about a talented, kind and smart, but very fat singer. She sings off stage, and a mediocre beauty opens her mouth to the public.
