The action of the drug is based on cetirizine dihydrochloride, an active substance that alleviates the symptoms of urticaria and allergic symptoms of the eyes and nose. When is Zyrtec UCB used?

The drug Zyrtec UCB in film-coated tablets is antiallergic agent – relieves the symptoms of urticaria, as well as symptoms of the nose and eyes accompanying allergic rhinitis (chronic or seasonal). It belongs to the group of antihistamines. Zyrtec UCB is available without a prescription and is intended for adults and children from 6 years of age. The active substance of the product is cetirizine.

Zyrtec UCB – contraindications

Zyrtec UCB is a drug, the use of which must first be consulted with a doctor or pharmacist. Some patients should not use this remedy. The main contraindications to taking Zyrtec UCB tablets are:

1. allergy to the active substance (cetirizine) or other ingredients included in the drug, as well as to substances such as hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives present in other therapeutic agents;
2. severe kidney disease – severe renal failure accompanied by a creatinine clearance below 10 ml / min.

People with certain medical conditions should also take additional precautions – in their case it is advisable seek medical advice before reaching for Zyrtec UCB. This group of patients includes people:

1. having problems urinating related to the prostate, bladder or spinal cord;
2. kidney failure;

1. active substance – certinic dihydrochloride at a dose of 10 mg in one tablet;
2. lactose jednowodna;
3. microcrystalline cellulose;
4. Opadry Y-1-7000 containing titanium dioxide, macrogol 400 and hypromellose;
5. magnesium stearate;
6. colloidal anhydrous silica.

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of the drug, do not use Zyrtec UCB tablets. In the case of lactose intolerance, it is advisable to consult a doctor.

Zyrtec UCB – dosage

Zyrtec UCB should be used according to the doctor’s instructions or the information contained in the leaflet. Take the tablet with a glass of liquid – it can be divided into two equal doses. The consumption of the preparation is not influenced by the consumed food. The dosage of Zyrtec UCB film-coated tablets depends on the age:

1. adults and adolescents over 12 years of age – one tablet (10 mg) once a day;
2. children from 6 to 12 years old – half a tablet (5 mg) twice a day. For children, other formulations that may be more suitable may be considered, e.g. Zyrtec drops (oral solution with a certin concentration of 1 mg / ml.

You can take Zyrtec UCB without your doctor’s advice no longer than 10 days. A different course of therapy may be recommended by the doctor, taking into account the symptoms, the course of the disease and possibly other diseases.

Dosage of Zyrtec UCB in impaired renal function

In case of severe kidney disease or kidney problems in children, the use of Zyrtec UCB should be discussed with the doctor. If you have moderate kidney problems, the recommended dose is 5 mg / day.

Zyrtec UCB – possible side effects

The risk of side effects cannot be excluded with the use of Zyrtec UCB tablets. Treatment should be discontinued immediately and a doctor should be contacted if an allergic reaction or angioedema occurs. Such reactions of the body may occur after the first use of the drug, but also later. Such actions happen rarely or very rarely.

Do common side effects of Zyrtec UCB (1 in 10 patients) symptoms include sleepiness as well as headache and dizziness. Fatigue, dry mouth, nausea and diarrhea are also observed, and children have nasopharyngitis. Rash, itching, agitation, abdominal pain, malaise or sensory disturbances are uncommon (affects 1 in 100 people).

Among side effects that happen rarely and very rarely, you can mention, among others confusion, depression, weight gain, faster heartbeat, seizures, drug rash, fainting, vision problems, uncontrolled eye movements, difficulty urinating, thrombocytopenia or liver dysfunction. Overdosage of Zyrtec UCB

If you miss a dose, do not take a supplementary dose. In the event of an overdose, the patient may experience symptoms such as:

1. headaches;
2. dizziness;
3. confusion;
4. somnolence;
5. itching;
6. increased heart rate;
7. urinary retention;
8. trembling;
9. motor restlessness.
