Zovirax Duo is a preparation used against herpes, chicken pox and shingles viruses. It contains acyclovir and hydrocortisone, it is used in inflammation. Zovirax Duo, what is its application? What are the contraindications for use?

Zovirax Duo- composition

Zovirax Duo comes in the form of a cream, one gram of the preparation contains 50 mg of acyclovir (Aciclovirum) and 10 mg of hydrocortisone (Hydrocortisonum). Excipients: cetostearyl alcohol 67,5 mg / g cream and propylene glycol 200 mg / g cream. The other ingredients are: liquid paraffin, white petrolatum, isopropyl myristate, sodium laurilsulfate, poloxamer 188, citric acid monohydrate, sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid, purified water.

Zovirax Duo – application

Zovirax Duo can be used when the first symptoms of cold sores appear to reduce the risk of developing the virus and ulcerating the lesions on the lips. If you feel tingling, itching or redness on your lips, you can use Zovirax Duo.

Zovirax Duo- how to apply?

Zovirax Duo should be used externally by applying a layer of cream to the lesions. If there is tingling, redness, discomfort on the lips, start using the preparation as soon as possible. Before use, wash your hands thoroughly and apply a layer of the preparation to the affected area, as well as to the surrounding area. Hands should also be washed after using Zovirax Duo to prevent the spread of infection. If an ulcer develops, you should not touch the area more often than necessary, so as not to spread the infection to other parts of the body or to the eyes.


Zovirax Duo can be used by adults and children over 12 years of age. The cream can be applied 5 times a day every 3 or 4 hours during the day. Self-administration of Zovirax Duo should not exceed 5 days. After this time, when herpes symptoms persist, contact your doctor.

Zovirax Duo- contraindications

If patients are hypersensitive or allergic to any of the ingredients, they should not use it. Zovirax Duo should also not be used by people who have known skin damage caused by a virus other than herpes simplex virus and in cases of fungal, bacterial and parasitic skin infections. Pregnant women and nursing mothers should also not use Zovirax Duo.

Zovirax Duo- side effects

As with all Zovirax Duo medicines, side effects may occur, if any of them occur, discontinue use immediately and consult your doctor.

Zovirax Duo can cause:

  1. swelling of the face, tongue or throat
  2. hives
  3. drying and peeling of the skin,
  4. transient burning,
  5. tingling or prickling that may occur immediately after applying the cream,
  6. itch,
  7. swelling of the lips
  8. erythema,
  9. skin color disturbances.
