Zofenil, which contains the active substance zofenopril, inhibits the production of angiotensin II. This translates into a diastolic effect on blood vessels and a reduction in blood pressure.
Composition and action
The preparation includes zofenopryl. It is a drug classified as ACE inhibitors. By its action of inhibiting angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), Zophenyl causes the relaxation of the smooth muscles of the blood vessel walls. Thanks to this, their expansion occurs. It is important to inhibit the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II because this enzyme is responsible for seriously disturbing the functioning of the blood system in the body.
Dosage
Zophenyl is accepted orally in the form of coated tablets. The amount of preparation obtained is selected individually according to the pressure measurement results. Taking the drug begins with the daily one doses 15 mg. Dose is systematically increased (not more than once every 4 weeks) until the blood pressure is stabilized. Average dose that’s 30 mg per day. Maximum daily dose of the preparation is 60 mg (can be taken twice a day, 2 mg each).
Indications
Po Zophenyl can reach two groups of people. Pierwsza are patients with mild or moderate essential hypertension. Second are haemodynamically stable people who have recently had a heart attack, both with and without symptoms of myocardial failure. In this case treatment with Zofenil should start within 24 hours of heart attack, provided thrombolytic therapy has not been started.
Contraindications
People who are hypersensitive (allergic) to zofenopryl, to other ACE inhibitors or to any of the ingredients of the drug. In addition, you can not take the drugif you suffer from severe liver failure, bilateral or unilateral (when a person has only one active kidney) renal artery stenosis. A contraindication the preparation is also used for hereditary angioedema, as well as when the patient has diabetes or impaired renal function and is treated with a blood pressure-lowering drug containing aliskiren Zophenyl. The preparation should not be taken by women in the period pregnancy and during breastfeeding. This also applies to women of childbearing potential when not using effective contraception. Not recommended application the drug in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
Who Should Be Careful?
Due to its intended use, the drug may cause an undesirable sudden drop in blood pressure and significant hypotension. Accordingly, the adjustment individual dose should be under the supervision of a physician, and the patient taking the drug should keep extreme caution. People with cerebrovascular diseases, angina pectoris or other diseases should be careful, in which a heart attack may occur due to a rapid and significant drop in pressure. Moreover special attention should be followed by patients with renal insufficiency, people taking preparations that increase the concentration of potassium in the blood, diuretics, antihypertensives, antidepressants and antipsychotics. Zophenyl lowers blood pressure, a alcohol consumed during treatment increases the hypotensive effect of the preparation. Therefore, people using the drug should exercise great caution when drinking alcohol.
Side effects
To frequent side effects include: headache, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, cough. Muscle cramps, skin rash, general body weakness are uncommon. Rare: angioedema. In addition to the side effects mentioned in this leaflet, some side effects may occur with the use of the drug side effects characteristic of other ACE inhibitors.
