Zlaty Bazant (“Golden Bazant” or “Golden Pheasant”)

Zlaty Bazant is the most popular brand of Slovak beer, the name translates as “golden pheasant”. The brand is part of the Heineken International corporation, the largest in the field of brewing. Golden Bazant is delivered to all European countries, Russia and the USA. High quality and original taste have been appreciated in more than 50 countries.

The history of the Zlaty Bazant brand began in 1969 in the small Slovak village of Gurbanovo. The climate in these places is one of the most favorable in the country, there are no severe colds here, the temperature rarely drops to minus levels. Such conditions are good not only for the production of beer, but also for golden pheasants. They have long chosen the local meadows and fields. Hence the name of the brand.

The products of the brewery were not only to the taste of the locals, the foamy drink quickly became in demand in the pubs of Czechoslovakia and fell in love with consumers all over the world. During the first decade of release, Zlaty Bazant began to be exported to 12 countries around the world.

Since 1971, a line for bottling beer into cans has been launched at the factory, it was the first such line in Czechoslovakia. In 1995, the brewery was acquired by the brewing giant Heineken, and a new era of development began for the Zlaty Bazant brand. Significant funds have been invested in the modernization of production and marketing activities. This strengthened the position of the brand in the domestic and world markets. One of these events is the sponsorship of the hockey club, which was called Iskra Zlaty Bazant. Factory production of selected malt became the largest in the region, its capacity was 140 thousand tons of malt per year.

In Russia, they were able to appreciate the taste of Zlaty Bazant beer only in 2005.

The brewery constantly uses modern technologies, develops a recipe for new varieties. In 2010 Nealko and Cerne varieties were created. In 2012, the Radler variety was introduced, which is considered one of the company’s most successful developments. Heineken’s assets are managed by Heineken’s subsidiary Slovensko.

Interesting Facts

When promoting in the US market, the brand name was translated into English – “Golden Pheasant”.

It is the only beer that has ever left Earth’s orbit. In the late seventies, a can of Zlaty Bazant beer was taken on a flight by Soviet cosmonauts. After returning to Earth, the jar was opened, its contents were sent for research, during which it was established that weightlessness had no effect on the famous Slovak beer. The composition remained unchanged.

Types of beer Zlaty Bazant

Beer Golden Bazant is represented by several types: dark, light, non-alcoholic and radler.

  • Zlaty Bazant light is the choice of classic beer lovers. Density – 10%, alcohol – 4,1%. Available in bottles of 0,33 and 0,5 liters, as well as in cans.
  • Zlaty Bazant dark – density – 10%, fortress – 3,8%. It has a particularly tart taste. Available in glass only.
  • Zlaty Bazant with lemon (Radler) – prepared on a traditional basis, and at the end mixed with lemonade in a ratio of 60/40. The density of the drink is 9,5%, the alcohol content is 1,8%. Chilled Radler is in high demand on hot summer days.
  • Zlaty Bazant non-alcoholic – contains up to 0,5% alcohol.
