Paronychia is a purulent inflammation under the nail shaft, i.e. under the part of the skin that covers the medial and lateral parts of the nail.

Infection is often caused by cutting injuries during manicures and similar procedures. The affected part of the nail shaft is swollen, red and painful. In neglected cases, the nail matrix, i.e. its reproductive part, may be damaged. The nail is separated from the substrate by the pus and goes down, and in its place a new one grows, often deformed, depending on the degree of damage to the reproductive part of the nail.

Treatment

In the initial period, compresses and baths are used. When pus is produced, the help of a surgeon is necessary, who by lifting the nail shaft creates conditions for its outflow.
