Pharmaceutical company “Yuriya-Pharm” is an international specialized company that manufactures and supplies medicines to medical institutions in 18 countries of the world. More than a hundred drugs of this pharmacological company have foreign registration and this figure is constantly growing. The most important part of the philosophy was the development of a quality policy based on international quality standards.
Brand History
Despite the fact that the founding date of the Yuria-Pharm corporation is considered to be 1998, the basis of the future business was the production in 1968 of medical preparations in the workshop at the Cherkasy Dairy Plant in the amount of up to one and a half thousand tons per year. The main product in this case was a blood substitute (casein hydrolyzate). On the basis of this workshop, in 1990, a closed joint-stock company “Yuriya” was organized, and in 1998, finally, this company became a springboard for “Yuriya-Pharm” LLC. The enterprise began its activity, immediately from the start introducing anti-crisis measures necessary for the then economy. At the same time, new products were developed, the enterprise management model was improved, and the qualifications of employees were constantly improved.
In 1999, the company experienced a significant expansion of the product line. Now the assortment has become represented by neogemodez, solutions of glucose, novocaine, sodium chloride, rheopolyglucin, Ringer’s solution, ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin and fluconazole. In 2000, the company began to produce an innovation – Rheosorbilact. The drug made a breakthrough in the methods of modern infusion therapy, it is still the hallmark of the Yuria-Pharm enterprise in the global pharmacological market.
In 2002-2003, automated Bosch and Bausch Strobel systems were introduced at the plant, increasing productivity by several dozen times. Only in Ukraine during these years more than 2 million units of the plant’s products were sold. From 2004 to 2006, the company began its entry into foreign markets, setting up deliveries to the CIS countries – Russia, Uzbekistan, Moldova and Georgia.
In 2007, the first distribution network of Yuria-Pharm was created, which helps to actively deliver the necessary medicines on-line to the regions of Ukraine. About 1000 tons of products were transported daily. Also, this year was remembered for the fact that, thanks to the Yuria-Pharm company, syringes with two needles appeared on the market for the first time – in order to collect the drug from an ampoule or vial, and for direct injection. In Ukraine, the standard world practice at that time was a novelty, syringes with only one needle were widely used.
In 2008, the company launched the industrial production of Tivortin, which is indispensable today for various pathologies of the vascular system. The first representative office of the plant was opened in Uzbekistan in the same year. The work plan for the next 5 years was revised, and a Certificate of Compliance with ISO 9001-2001 international quality standards was received.
Since 2010, the Yuria-Pharm enterprise has launched the production of syringes filled with drugs. In 2011, Bottelpack was installed at the factories – equipment designed for the production of polymer containers, the production of nebules and ampoules began. In 2012, Yuria-Pharm acquired representative offices in Africa – Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, South Sudan, Rwanda. Already in 2013, Yuria-Pharm acquired the status of an international corporation by opening representative offices in Russia, Vietnam, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan.
Product range
The most important stage in the development of the Yuria-Pharm corporation is the start of certified production of infusion solutions in Ukraine. This is the only production of its kind in the country that has GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certificates, indicating compliance with international requirements for the quality and technical condition of infusion production (solutions for injections and infusions, syrups). In the medical environment, it is believed that the quality of the infusion solution largely determines the effectiveness of the treatment. Therefore, at Yuria-Pharm, this process is under special control.
At the moment, the enterprises that are part of the Yuria-Pharm corporation set the pace for the entire segment of infusion solutions, developing alternative modern treatment methods. For the first time, these enterprises in all CIS countries launched the production of multifunctional solutions of a complex nature, such as Rheosorbilact, Xylat, Sorbilact, Gecodez plasma substitute, Tivortin, a nitric oxide donor, without which modern medicine cannot imagine many therapeutic techniques.
In 2012, for the first time among all enterprises of the CIS countries, Yuria-Pharm participated in the work of the European Respiratory Community in Austria. The first antiseptic for inhalation from the company – Dekasan – was recognized by this congress as one of the most useful and interesting novelties in the profile area.
Production capacity
At the enterprises of Yuria-Pharm, investments in the field of production modernization are increasing every year. At the same time, there is a quantitative and qualitative growth of the personnel and production potential of the corporation. During the period from 1998 to 2016, the corporation’s production capacity was able to increase 70 times – from 100 thousand units of manufactured products at the start of operations to 7 million units in 2016. And this number is constantly growing.
The range of drugs produced also does not stand still, and since the beginning of the plant’s operation in 1998, it has increased 100 times. This growth provides both a variety of packaging and the name of the drugs produced. In the last decade, about 15 completely new drugs have been produced at the Yuria-Pharm factories every year.
Quality control and certification
When quality management is based on a process approach, it is impossible to imagine a situation in which quality control would not touch absolutely every link in the production process of a drug or other medical device. At Yuria-Pharm Corporation, a methodology based on a process approach helps to manage not only production processes, but also logistics, distribution, promotion, as well as economic, financial and administrative issues.
The first step towards true quality control was the introduction of the international standard DSTU ISO 9001:2009 into production. In the future, the activities of the company were recognized by various international institutions. High-quality production has become the highest goal for each employee of the company, as evidence of which, Yuria-Pharm products received quality certificates DSTU ISO 13485:2005 (ISO 13485:2003, IDT), DSTU ISO 9001-2001 (ISO 9001:2000, IDT), GMP (Ukraine), GMP (EC), ISO 13485:2003 (BSI). GMP standards are standards according to which products meet all the requirements of good manufacturing practice.
Also, Yuria-Pharm Corporation is the winner of the Eighteenth Ukrainian National Quality Competition (nomination “Large Enterprises”).
Collaborations and awards
The company’s strategy has always been traced to the goal of entering foreign markets. The CIS countries have been using Yuria-Pharm products for a long time, doctors are well acquainted with it and actively use it for therapeutic purposes, but the corporation has reached far-abroad countries quite recently, but has already managed to establish itself on the good side. Quality products and international certification have helped specialists to find their niche in a demanding market.
At the moment, according to the company’s management, the possibility of establishing the supply of anti-tuberculosis drugs to Brazil is being considered. To this end, the country’s regulatory authority (National Health Surveillance Agency) has already carried out an inspection of the production sites, since Brazil is interested in such cooperation, and the owners are awaiting an opinion on this audit.
In addition, in 2018 it is planned to introduce new drugs into production, which will help to cover foreign markets in the future. Today, Yuria-Pharm products are used in 25 states, and implementation work is generally taking place in 50.
The results of the last 11 months of work have shown that the corporation is among the top three in terms of pharmacy sales and is a dynamic leader among products with a high price cluster. In 2016, Yuria-Pharm accounted for 6,2% of pharmacy sales of the entire similar market.
