Yucca filamentous

Filamentous yucca is an evergreen perennial plant. Its homeland is North America, but for almost a century it has been grown in central Russia. With proper care and planting, yucca can grow and bloom for years.

Yucca is a large plant. It reaches a height of 1,5-2 meters. One plant can have from 80 to 150 flowers. Flowers can be of different colors, and in shape they resemble bells.

With proper care, filamentous yucca can bloom annually for many years.

The native land of the flower is North America, and initially yucca grew in deserts, so it is well adapted to drought. But later it turned out that some species of this shrub can grow in the middle lane with cold winters. A tall plant with a lot of flowers on it dilutes the look of a garden or park and adds exoticism to it.

This process is not very difficult, but you need to pay attention to the location of the seedling, as well as the soil:

  1. Find the most sunny spot to plant your yucca. She does not like to be in the shade, this can affect the appearance of the plant.
  2. Choose soil that allows oxygen to flow to the roots. Also provide good drainage and keep an eye on the amount of moisture in the soil. It copes better with drought than excessive moisture, which can lead to root rot.
  3. Prepare tracing paper for drainage and sand. Sand can also be mixed with ash.
  4. Dig a hole about 80 cm deep and 40 cm wide.
  5. Put tracing paper at the bottom of the hole, then add sand.
  6. Place the yucca in the hole and cover with earth.
  7. Compact the earth, and water the seedling.

Paying attention to each stage, you will help the shrub to settle down in a new place. The most important thing to look out for is plenty of sunshine and good drainage.

Caring for her is also simple:

  1. Keep track of the amount of water while watering and water the plant at the root. Avoid stagnation of water in the soil.
  2. Loosen the soil near the bushes regularly and remove weeds.
  3. Apply nitrogen fertilizer during the flowering period. But stop feeding a month before the onset of autumn.
  4. Despite its frost resistance, yucca needs shelter during cold winters. Use materials that allow oxygen to pass through and place leaves over the roots.

With proper care, you will see the yucca bloom every year. Remember that the first flowering will occur three years after planting.

Yucca is a shrub that stands out for its exoticism from other plants in the garden. It is unpretentious and tolerates winter, as well as mild drought. It is not difficult to grow it on your site, and even a not very experienced gardener can cope with this.
