1/ 7 Heart attack

High blood pressure from excessive salt intake can not only lead to a stroke. It also drives the development of other cardiovascular diseases. Studies from fifty countries show that 40 percent of salt-related deaths occur in men. And most often they die of a heart attack.

2/ 7 Obesity

Recent studies have shown that after consuming a salty product, we begin to have an increased appetite for sweets. And we usually reach for them then. As a result, the consumption of salt contributes to our weight gain. And it is not known yet why, but especially until the so-called abdominal obesity. Unfortunately, it leads to serious diseases and significantly increases the risk of premature death. In the fat tissue called visceral inflammatory processes are initiated, which over time attack the entire body and lead, among others, to for atherosclerosis and diabetes.

3/ 7 Urolithiasis

Salt, even that contained in bread, cold cuts or concentrates, is a threat to the kidneys. In order to get rid of it with urine, the body must use, inter alia, calcium. And this is then released in excess and causes the formation of calcium oxalate deposits in the kidneys.

4/ 7 Stroke

When we eat too much salt, the kidneys are unable to catch the excess salt and excrete it in the urine. It is then absorbed into the blood and causes the blood pressure to rise. Consequently, it could lead to a stroke.

5/7 Osteoporosis

Unfortunately, when the kidneys and urine remove excess salt from our body, they also get rid of calcium. To protect the bones, for every 500 milligrams of salt eaten excessively, we should take an additional 40 milligrams of calcium.

6/ 7 Stomach cancer

Salt added to food increases the risk of stomach cancer. Especially in people who are infected with helicobacter pylori. Unfortunately, it is estimated that as many as 70 percent of us are carriers of this bacterium, and a large number of people are not aware of it at all. Until now, helicobacter pylori has been talked about mainly in the context of the formation of gastric ulcers.

7/ 7 Dementia

If you like a salty taste, remember that eating salt lowers mental performance and can even lead to Alzheimer’s disease. – Excessive salt consumption is a significant risk factor for the development of degenerative diseases of the nervous system, including micro-damage to the brain and dementia, i.e. dementia – warns prof. Mirosław Jarosz, director of the Institute of Food and Nutrition. When limiting salt, remember that it is not only about the salt that we pour out of the salt shaker onto plates. And also the one hidden in almost all food products – not only preserved, but also in bread, cookies, broth cubes (usually salt, not fat and herbs are their main ingredient), breakfast cereals and even chocolate.
