You can pay for travel on the Rome metro with plastic bottles

Rome is tired of garbage: complaints from city residents and tourists are increasing every day. As one of the solutions to the problem, a startup has appeared that allows you to exchange empty plastic bottles for the possibility of free travel on the subway.

The initiative has been piloted for 12 months at Cipro metro stations on line A, Pyramide on line B and San Giovanni on line C.

The price of one bottle is 5 cents. A metro ride costs one and a half euros. Therefore, to get a ticket, you need to return 30 plastic containers. For the exchange, they came up with a special MyCicero application. You need to put the bottles in the container and use this application to convert them into a travel ticket.

“We can say that we are the first major European capital to introduce this innovation. The vending machine that accepts plastic bottles and issues credit for purchasing tickets is currently only available in Rome, ”said Mayor Virginia Ruggie.

This project is planned to be tested during the year.
