Yoga in Kemerovo: tips for beginners from Alina Namitulina

September 13 – Yoga Day in Russia. On the eve of this date, Woman’s Day figured out how to choose your direction in yoga and find a good instructor. The instructions for the use of yoga for us were compiled by the director of the House of Yoga “Mudra” Alina Namitulina.

Yoga is a very ancient healing system. Now, when it is especially popular, a wide variety of its directions has formed. Therefore, first of all, you need to understand what you want to get out of the practice. And, of course, assess your health and the degree of physical fitness.

For body

For your first introduction to yoga, it is good to attend at least a few traditional classes. For example, Hatha yoga in the Patanjali tradition. And take an introductory course for beginners, in which you will get acquainted with the basic principles of yoga, basic concepts, asanas and other components.

If you want to correct your figure, lose extra pounds and build muscle, you can try Ashtanga yoga. But be prepared for serious physical activity, this direction is strong and dynamic.

Yoga therapy as a therapeutic practice will help improve health. This is a gentle approach, precise alignment of asanas and a minimum of physical overload.

For the spirit

If you are looking for not only physical but also spiritual practices, pay attention to Kundalini yoga. This direction uses an integrated approach: breathing practices, chanting mantras, asanas, work with mental images, cleansing practices, energy.

To determine the right direction of yoga, be sure to go to one or two orientation sessions. My advice is – in the classroom, do not think about what is happening, trust the sensations, they will tell you whether it is your yoga or not.

Where to study: at home or in the studio?

To get results, classes should be regular, at least twice a week. But be careful when studying at home on your own from books or video tutorials. Their authors do not know the peculiarities of your health and are not responsible for the safety of performing asanas. Therefore, the first time it is better to study in the studio.

Classes are held in a comfortable environment for you. Especially important for beginners: the absence of distracting sounds, the number of people in the group, the environment.

Choose a few places you like and go for the first sensations. Feel free to ask questions to the administrators and chat with the teacher.

Yoga is becoming more popular and there are more and more instructors. This is not to say that the number of “half-educated wizards” is catastrophic, but there are enough of them. Often such teachers show solid degrees and speak authoritatively about enlightenment and samadhi. But how to figure out who is right and who is “so-so”, and choose your real teacher, who will become a guide to the wonderful and magical world of yoga?

Ask for advice from acquaintances who regularly study with the same teacher. But don’t expect you to like it too.

Look up information on the Internet about the teacher, read reviews.

The surest way is to attend several classes of different teachers, so that you have something to compare with. After that, you can easily make the right decision, relying on your own experience. Refer to yourself and your feelings, feel the master with your heart, how pleasant the past lesson is for you and whether you want to come to the next one.
