Yo-yo effect after liposuction

People who have undergone the popular liposuction procedure should not rest on their laurels. Scientists have found that the removal of excess subcutaneous fat contributes to the growth of visceral fat that is harmful to health.

Subcutaneous fatty tissue is located directly under the skin and is the primary purpose of liposuction. Visceral fat lies deep between our organs in the abdomen, and its accumulation is strongly associated with diabetes and heart disease.

Scientists from the University of Sao Paulo have found that removing excess subcutaneous fat contributes to the growth of visceral fat that is harmful to health.

Fortunately, they also found that the right exercise program helps prevent postoperative increases in visceral fat. Importantly, the four months of supervised exercise program was able to compensate for the increase in visceral fat, emphasized the team, led by Fabian Benatti of the University of Sao Paulo.

Researchers are not yet clear about how exactly the procedure increases the risk of an increase in visceral fat. What is certain, however, is that exercise seems to mitigate this risk. (PAP Life)
