Yellow peony: varieties

Yellow peony: varieties

The yellow peony is the pink dream of avid gardeners, since varieties with a sunny tint have appeared relatively recently. The color of the bud is unstable to light and has a milky color to full bloom.

The first yellow varieties of peonies

Breeders around the world have long and persistently tried to breed peonies with a bright yellow flower, but they suffered a crushing fiasco.

Observing these simple rules, you can grow a beautiful bush of yellow peonies

The first to develop the desired shade was American breeder Andersen. However, all yellow peonies are ito-hybrids with outstanding data:

  • Tall bush. The maximum flower growth is 90-95 cm.
  • Active growth in all directions.
  • Frost-resistant foliage.
  • Powerful stem.

These qualities help the hybrid to grow in the climatic zone of Russia.

Varietal ito-hybrids of peonies

There are not so many light-resistant peonies with persistent color. These include:

  • The Bartzella variety was bred in the USA in 1986. This hybrid appeared thanks to the brilliant breeder Andersen. A flower with a diameter of 20 cm has a double shape and a lemon shade.
  • Border Charm is also from the USA. Medium late bush. Inflorescences up to 16 cm in diameter are semi-double.
  • The Viking Full Moon variety came to us from the USA. The height of the bush reaches 85-90 cm, while the inflorescences are small, only 15 cm in diameter. The flowers have an interesting color – green-yellow petals with a red center. Stems are powerful, erect. It is famous for its long unfriendly flowering.
  • Julia Rose – semi-double peonies with large flowers with a diameter of 18-20 cm. An individual feature of the variety is the pigmentation of the red center of the flower in a bright yellow shade.
  • Yellow Heaven was born in Japan. Medium late plant with large double inflorescences.

All ito hybrids are cold resistant. The complete wilting of peonies of this family occurs after the first frost.

Planting yellow peony seedlings

Before planting peonies of ito varieties, it is necessary to prepare a plot of land in advance, taking into account varietal characteristics:

  • For an ito-seedling, it is necessary to dig a hole, taking into account that the root system of the plant develops not in depth, but in width.
  • Peonies are best planted in virgin soil or in a place where cultivated plants used to successfully develop.
  • You should not plant the plant in a place where a tree or other varieties of peonies grew last season.
  • Groundwater should be at least a meter below the root system of the peony.

If you follow all the rules, it is easy to grow a large flower bed of beautiful peonies.

Now knowing which varieties of sun-colored peonies are more popular and what kind of care is needed, you can start decorating your own flower bed with this beautiful flower.
