Yellow durable AB is a substance from a number of azo dyes, which has pronounced coloring properties. When used in various products, the additive gives it a bright yellow color. This dye is found on food labels under the code “E105” or under the names “Fast yellow”, “Acid yellow G” or “Acid yellow”. With the help of such tricks, manufacturers are trying their best to hide the presence of a component in food formulations, since at the legislative level its use is prohibited in most states. The reason for this is the high toxicity of the substance and its negative impact on human health.
The main characteristics of the substance
Food additive E105 looks like a powder with small granules of a characteristic yellow or ocher color. Its chemical structure consists of nitrogen compounds.
Yellow durable is resistant to acidic environments and heat treatment. The additive is highly soluble in water. Used on its own, it dyes goods a bright yellow, but it can also be mixed with other dyes to create green, brown, or orange hues. The dye is synthesized artificially and has no natural analogues.
In industrial conditions, it is used to give products a different color from the natural one, to enhance the natural color or to restore it if it was lost during the heat treatment. Strong Yellow AB is available in several varieties: Food Yellow, Fast Yellow AB, Acid Yellow, and Fast Yellow.
The use of E105 dye in production
The main reason why manufacturers, despite the prohibitions and dangers, still cannot completely abandon the use of the food additive “strong yellow AB” is its cheapness.
The substance obtained in the process of coal processing differs from other dyes in its low cost, the absence of significant energy and labor costs.
In addition, the additive is heat-resistant, so the bright yellow color that it can impart to products is not lost or tarnished during heat treatment.
For these reasons, industrialists in a number of eastern countries (for example, China, India, Thailand) still produce food products with the E105 code in their composition.
An unpleasant “surprise” in the form of a harmful additive can be found in a variety of products intended for public consumption:
- cakes;
- cakes;
- confectionery creams;
- bakery products;
- jelly and chewing sweets;
- Dessert;
- cold teas in plastic containers.
Therefore, while on vacation somewhere in Asian countries and tempted by bright and varied delicacies and sweets in the supermarket, before buying exotic edible souvenirs, you should carefully study the composition of these products indicated on the label for the presence of E105 additive. In domestic stores, when buying imported sweets, you also need to be careful: products can be brought into the territory of the state illegally, that is, by smuggling, and its composition will include prohibited food additives, including E105.
In the countries of the European Union, Russia, Ukraine, Canada, the USA and the UK, the additive is allowed for use only in the chemical and textile industries. With the help of “yellow durable AB”, fabrics (cotton, silk, wool, acrylic) and plastics are dyed, paint and varnish products are produced.
Impact on the human body
Numerous studies and experiments using laboratory animals have shown that the substance has pronounced toxic and poisonous properties, which, when released into a living organism, cause irreversible damage, allergic reactions and poisoning. Moreover, the carcinogenic effect of yellow persistent AB and its ability to cause the development of malignant tumors in laboratory animals has been scientifically proven.
When used in the chemical and textile industries, the substance does not cause such an effect, so non-food products dyed with it do not pose a danger to humans.
Children, pregnant and lactating women, the elderly, asthmatics and allergy sufferers are especially not recommended to eat food with the addition of E105 – such food can turn into irreversible consequences for them.
Yellow durable AB is a product of processing coal products. The synthetic substance is mass-produced all over the world, which is not surprising, since in many countries natural and artificial fabrics, fibers and plastics are dyed with it, varnishes and paints are produced. It is not in vain that the additive is called “strong”, because it is not affected by light and temperatures, and is resistant to aggressive environments.
As part of coloring compositions for woolen or silk fibers, paints or plastic elements, the substance is quite harmless, but for the human body the composition can be toxic and becomes a factor provoking the appearance of cancerous tumors and causing harm to health. It is for this reason that most states prohibit the use of E105 additives in food products. Unfortunately, some unscrupulous industrialists continue to use the dye in the production of confectionery, canned berries and fruits, sweet drinks, and some do not indicate the ingredient on the label. The consumer can protect himself only by choosing proven and well-known food manufacturers so as not to buy poisonous treats for himself or his family.
