Sweet cherry is one of the earliest fruits with juicy and tasty pulp. Most often, trees with red drupes are planted on personal plots. But the yellow cherry also deserves attention. Its varieties are distinguished by high yields and fruit benefits.

Depending on the variety, the cherry tree can be medium-sized or very tall. Its crown is spreading, conical or ovoid. The leaves are elongated and pointed. Their edges are jagged. The crown can be light or dark green. The buds are formed by 5 white petals. The fruit is a medium or large drupe. Its size depends on the variety. The color of the fruit can be light or rich yellow, sometimes with a pink side.

The most popular varieties of yellow cherries:

  • Household cherries. The tree is tall and spreading. Therefore, the plant must be constantly pruned. Early variety. The first drupes appear only in the 6th year after planting a young tree. The fruits are large and juicy. The pulp is slightly sinewy. The bone is large. It separates well from the pulp. The fruit tastes sweet with a slight sourness. This is due to its high vitamin C content.
  • Drogan’s cherry. The tree is tall with a rounded crown. Fruits appear in the 4th or 5th year after planting the seedling in the ground. Drupes are large, juicy with delicate sweet pulp. Due to the thin skin, the berry cannot be frozen and transported. Medium bone. It separates poorly from the pulp. The fruits ripen in June.
  • Sweet cherry “Aelita”. The tree is tall with a flatly rounded crown. Fruiting in the 4th year after planting in the ground. The fruits are very large. Their weight can reach 10 grams. Drupe yellow with pink side. The pulp is dense, juicy with a pleasant honey flavor. There are small veins. The fruits ripen in June-July.

Most cherry varieties cannot self-pollinate. Therefore, it is better to plant several varieties of it in one area. This will ensure regular and bountiful harvests.

It is better to plant young plants in the ground in spring. Over the summer, they will get stronger and take root well. For landing, choose a sunny place protected from constant winds. Trees are placed at a distance of 3 or 4 m from each other. Yellow varieties grow well in loamy soil with moderate moisture.

If summers are dry, trees should be watered abundantly every 7 days. Cherry is fed 2 times. In the spring, fertilizers containing nitrogen are used. In August or early September, the tree is watered with mixtures containing phosphorus. Also, in the fall, ash can be added to the ground under the plant.

To protect against pests and frost in the fall, it is recommended to wrap the cherry trunk with a coarse cloth, roofing felt or other dense material. In winter, you need to throw more snow under the tree.

You need to prune cherries annually. This is done in early spring before flowering. Remove damaged and dry branches, shorten long shoots. Also, in the spring, it is better to dig up the ground under the plant. This will improve oxygen access to its roots. Cherries need to be sprayed annually with special solutions to protect against diseases and insects.

Sweet cherry is suitable for growing in personal plots. The fruits of most varieties are characterized by juicy pulp and pleasant taste.
