The daily number of new coronavirus cases in Poland is inexorably close to one thousand, so the moment when the yellow and red zones will be introduced is getting closer. There are already several poviats in which the number of cases per 10 thousand. population is extremely high with low vaccination rates. Which regions in Poland are most at risk?

  1. The Ministry of Health does not yet envisage introducing restrictions in the entire country
  2. The restrictions may appear at the poviat level
  3. Looking at the epidemic data, it is easy to predict where a yellow or even a red zone may appear in a moment.
  4. The worst situation is in several places in the province. Lublin

Will the yellow and red zones come back?

At the end of August, when the daily number of new coronavirus cases was starting to exceed 200, Health Minister Adam Niedzielski announced a return to the idea of dividing Poland into green, yellow and red zones. Regional restrictions would appear when the daily number of infections exceeds a thousand. Three factors would determine the division into zones.

The rest of the text is below the video.

First, we would like these zones to be redefined at the poviat level. Because we also look at individual regions in terms of different vaccination levels. Because vaccinating the population in a given region is a very important parameter that tells about this risk, how many infections there will be and what will be the burden on the local hospital infrastructure – said the minister.

The second element is to be the number of infections per 10. residents. But different from the previous coronavirus wave, because “the sheer number of infections translates into roughly 40-50 percent fewer hospitalizations.” The average will be lowered twice.

  1. Since August, the level of immunity to coronavirus in Poland has been declining. This data is disturbing

– We will want to raise these thresholds, initially, at least twice, i.e. with the yellow zone, instead of 6, there will be 12 infections per 10, and with the red zone – instead of 12, there will be 24 out of 10 – said Niedzielski.

Vaccination will be the third factor in zoning. – We will want to take into account the vaccination rate. So if a given region is classified into a zone according to the number of infections, then if in this region vaccination is above the national average, then this zone will be reduced. So if someone has a red zone due to the number of infections, but his vaccination level is above average, it will be a yellow zone. This is how it looks simplified – explained Niedzielski.

Yellow and red zones – which poviats are they threatened with?

The latest data from the Ministry of Health say about 975 coronavirus infections. The daily average for the last week is 803. A week ago this average was 650. So you can see that the number of infections is growing faster and faster and the issue of exceeding a thousand a day is a matter of the next few days.

In which voivodships and poviats the epidemic situation is the worst? For a long time, the most COVID-19 infections have been registered in the province. Lublin. The Lublin region is also a region with a very low level of vaccination. It can be expected that the first yellow and maybe even red counties will appear at the eastern border.

  1. Poles are less and less afraid of the coronavirus. And they don’t want to get vaccinated

When it comes to infections, the situation in the Łęczna poviat looks terrible. The average for the last few days is 21,32 per 10 thousand. inhabitants (data presented by Piotr Tarnowski).

The percentage of vaccinated people in this poviat is 36,9, ie significantly below the national average, there is no chance – in line with the MoH guidelines – to “lower” the zone. The Łęczna poviat currently qualifies for the yellow zone, it is almost close to the red zone.

If the restrictions were introduced today, the Lubelski and Janowski poviats would also become “yellow”, both in the voivodship Lublin (data compiled by Piotr Tarnowski)

Yesterday, the Janów poviat did not qualify for the yellow zone, as Tarnowski showed on Twitter. “According to the assumptions from August, the division into zones would look like this: Łęczna and Lublin poviats in the yellow zone” – he wrote.

Which other poviats are close to the yellow zone? At least 10 new cases of COVID-19 per 10 residents have recently been recorded in such poviats as: lowland (Podkarpackie Voivodeship), Kraśnicki, parczewski, the town of Biała Podlaska, m. Lublin (lubelskie voivodeship), Węgrowski (Masovian Voivodeship) and Elbląg (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship). There are also close to 10 in the district Bilgoraj (lubelskie voivodeship). In all these counties, the vaccination rate is below 50%. (the National average).

Yellow zone – what are the possible restrictions?

The Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski, emphasizes that after the introduction of restrictions in a given poviat, the limits will not apply to the vaccinated. So what can happen to those who are not vaccinated?
