Yaz – how does the contraceptive work? When can it be used?

Yaz is an oral contraceptive that consists of two components: drospirenone (a progestogen) and ethinylestradiol (a synthetic estrogen). One package contains 24 tablets and is available on prescription. Yaz is a combined hormonal contraceptive that stops Graaf’s follicle maturation and inhibits ovulation.

Yaz – indications for use

Yaz is used with a purpose prevent pregnancy.

Yaz – contraindications to the use of contraception

Contraindications to taking Yaz hormone pills are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation, current or past venous thrombosis (e.g. deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism),
  2. current or past arterial thrombosis (e.g. stroke, heart attack) or conditions that may be the first sign of thrombosis (e.g. angina, transient cerebral ischemia)
  3. A cerebrovascular accident, present or in the past, the presence of an acute risk factor for arterial thrombosis or a combination of these: diabetes mellitus with vascular changes,
  4. severe arterial hypertension,
  5. severe dyslipoproteinaemia,
  6. hereditary or acquired susceptibility to venous or arterial thrombosis, e.g. resistance to activated protein C (APC),
  7. antithrombin III deficiency,
  8. protein C deficiency,
  9. protein S deficiency,
  10. hiperhomocysteinemia,
  11. antiphospholipid antibodies (anticardiolipin, lupus anticoagulant),
  12. pancreatitis with or in the past severe hypertriglyceridaemia
  13. past or present of severe liver failure as long as liver function tests have normalized,
  14. current or history of liver cancer (benign or malignant),
  15. Known or suspected neoplastic conditions of the reproductive organs or breasts dependent on the influence of sex hormones,
  16. severe or acute renal failure
  17. unexplained vaginal bleeding
  18. migraine with a history of focal neurological symptoms,
  19. pregnancy or suspected pregnancy,
  20. the period of breastfeeding.

Yaz – dosage

The hormonal agent Yaz is a drug in the form of film-coated tablets to be taken by mouth. Do not take more than the recommended dose as it may harm your life or health.

  1. Take 1 tablet / day at the same time for the next 28 days, in the order indicated on the package; after stopping bleeding begins 2-3 days after starting placebo tablets (last row of tablets)
  2. The next pack should be started the day after the last tablet of the previous pack, even if the withdrawal bleeding is still ongoing.
  3. If you start using the product on the first day of your period you will be immediately protected against pregnancy.
