XNUMX-year-old girl dies after eating ice cream: doctor’s comment

The death of the baby is being investigated by the police. And the doctors have already named the cause of the tragedy – allergy.

An ordinary British family – mom, dad, nine-year-old daughter – went on vacation at sea. Spain, the Costa del Sol, the hotel, the sun – everything is perfect and cloudless. Until the real tragedy happened. The girl just ordered ice cream at a restaurant. And after a while, the schoolgirl felt very bad, and she was urgently taken to the nearest clinic.

Despite all the efforts of the doctors, the child’s condition did not improve, she only got worse. As a result, it was decided to send the girl to a large hospital in Malaga. But even there they could not help her – unfortunately, the baby died, reports News.sky.com.

Doctors from the very beginning suspected that the girl had anaphylactic shock. The day after her death, experts conducted an autopsy and confirmed that the schoolgirl died due to an acute allergic reaction to dairy products and nuts.

How it happened that the girl ate a product that was categorically impossible for her is unclear. Where the parents looked – too. And representatives of the hotel say that the girl ate ice cream outside the hotel. However, while expressing condolences.

The resort authorities are investigating those responsible for the death of the child. Indeed, in Europe, this is not the first scandal due to children’s allergies to food. Last year, a 15-year-old teenage girl died of anaphylactic shock after eating a baguette on an airplane. It turned out that the bread contained peanuts, to which the child was severely allergic. But there was no information on the labeling about the presence of nuts.

Doctor Alexey Bessmertny, allergist, immunologist, pediatrician:

“The milk and nuts in ice cream are among the most common allergens. The girl developed an immediate allergic reaction – anaphylactic shock, or anaphylaxis. In this case, it is possible to save a person. First of all, death helps prevent the adrenaline shot. Unfortunately, the majority of our population is not trained in the rules for providing ambulance with respect to cardiopulmonary resuscitation and in such a situation can only call an ambulance, which, of course, must be done. But it is also necessary to learn the basic rules of providing therapeutic assistance.

If a person knows that he has a strong allergy to something, I recommend to him – after consulting a doctor – ampoules with adrenaline solution for immediate injection and always carry them with him. On the Internet, in case of anaphylaxis, it is advised to treat the places that have come into contact with the allergen with water – this is a delusion, this will not help. It is also advised to induce vomiting in order to remove at least part of the allergen outside. Remember that vomiting can only be induced while the person is conscious, otherwise they may choke. You can also give activated carbon or other absorbent, but the effect of it will be extremely low. Antiallergenic drugs will be just as useless in case of anaphylaxis – it makes sense to take them if the allergy manifests itself in a mild degree, in the form of redness or itching, but not in case of suffocation. “
