Historical information

Officially, the company was founded in 1983, although it has a long history. The basis for the modern enterprise was laid back in 1811, when the Clinch brewery was founded in the town of Whitney in Oxfordshire. The family business was successful until the end of the 1945th century, in the first half of the XNUMXth century things began to decline, and by XNUMX the brewery was taken over by Castletown Brewery. Subsequently, it changed hands several times and almost ceased to exist until it was acquired by Paddy Glenn.

When Chris Moss took over, the brewery took on its current name, Wychwood Brewery, after an old forest near Whitney. It was Chris Moss who created the popular Hobgoblin beer and first decorated the bottle with an illustrated label. In the promotion strategy of the new product, the focus was on the use of legends, the creation of creative slogans and packaging. Hobgoblin’s success is a combination of ingenious marketing and really high quality beer. Since 2008, Wychwood Brewery has been operated by Marston’s.

The name of the beer is a play on words: it translates as “Red beard”. However, the word ginger has another meaning – ginger, which clearly indicates that the drink will appeal to lovers of ginger beer. The drink has a light amber color, the foam cap lasts a long time. The bouquet is made up of tones of citrus fruits, cloves, molasses, fresh pastries, but they are dominated by the smell of ginger.
