Wrong number and a dog on the road: two stories of an amazing acquaintance

It seems that a lot in our life is decided by chance. And also – the willingness to retreat from the usual stereotypes of communication and take a step towards a stranger. How does it work in reality? Tell our heroes who decided to take this step and found people close to them.

“Girl just got the wrong number”

Dmitry, 29 years old

That evening I was watching a movie, from which I was distracted by a phone call: “Hello, Dmitry, my name is Elena. I was told that you could help with a computer problem.”

I was a little surprised. My real name is Dmitry and I do IT, but I usually don’t help anyone except close friends. And the girl was unfamiliar to me. But since she called, I decided to listen.

She said that she could not connect the printer. I began to question her and, I don’t know why, turned on, tried to help remotely. He asked, of course, who advised her to contact me.

She began to talk about Natalya, who knows me and recommended me as a computer specialist who knows her business. Along the way, I learned that I helped not only the mysterious Natalya, but also a number of people whose existence I did not suspect.

It was obvious that the girl simply had the wrong number. But for some reason that didn’t stop me. In the intervals while the program was loading, we continued to talk about extraneous topics. I heard a dog barking and learned that she had a fox terrier. And I had a dachshund sleeping next to me.

The stranger was unexpectedly easy to communicate with, and I told her a couple of funny episodes related to my dog.

She shared her story – dog lovers will always find a topic for conversation. Somehow imperceptibly they started talking about the film that I watched that evening. She became interested. So it turned out that we have similar tastes in the cinema.

She wanted to transfer money to me, but I offered to fix another problem with the computer that came up along the way, and do it on the spot. We agreed to come the next day. “False Dmitry,” I thought to myself, getting ready for this, probably the strangest meeting in my life. How do I confess to her that, in fact, a stranger to her?

Behind the door I heard the barking of a dog (a fox terrier, as I already knew). The door was opened by a girl with a high tail. Big gray eyes. I liked her right away, and from this was born the fear that I involuntarily went too far in my game and now she will kick me out.

In order not to think about it, I immediately sat down at the computer. She offered coffee. I looked at her and understood – I like everything about her: how she moves unusually (Lena was engaged in ballroom dancing), how thoughtfully she looks a little to the side.

And I decided to confess to her: I said that my name is Dmitry, but I’m not the one she called, that I don’t know her friend Natalya. And he came to her because he wanted to see her.

Lena was not afraid that a stranger had been tricked into her house. She didn’t get angry and didn’t show me the door. She laughed. We began to restore the details of our acquaintance and both of us laughed at this situation. Since then we have not parted.

“This gift turned everything upside down in my destiny”

Elvira, 43 years old

It all started with the fact that I adopted an Irish setter from a shelter and faced a problem inherent in this breed – shoots. A friend brought me a glow-in-the-dark collar from a foreign business trip to make it easier to find my fugitive. And this gift unexpectedly turned everything upside down in my life.

That evening, as usual, I took Gaston out for a walk. It was January, very cold. I let him off the leash, and he, having made a couple of circles, looked at me cheerfully. I already knew this look and understood that now it would be carried away in an unknown direction and no force would stop it.

Once again regretting that I let the dog go, I rushed after it into the winter darkness. The collar twinkled with guiding stars, by which I determined the path of my fugitive. And here something happened that she was most afraid of – the dog jumped out onto the roadway.

“Gaston,” I shouted and at the same moment I saw the car brake. My heart sank, I rushed to the road. The dog was not injured, but was clearly shocked and rushed towards me. The driver jumped out of the car. It was a young man who immediately took the dog by the collar, examined it, found a wound on its head, and just as confidently concluded: “It’s okay. He’ll live until the wedding.”

“Whose one?” I asked, still very nervous. “We’ll see,” the driver smiled.

He said that it is worth taking the dog to the veterinarian – perhaps the wound will have to be sewn up. As it turned out, the driver lived in our area, he was a dog owner himself and knew where to go.

We got into the car, and Anton (that was his name) told how a sparkling dog suddenly appeared on the road in the light of lanterns, as if from a Conan Doyle story. And he was just as scared as me at that moment. This made me laugh, which immediately reduced the degree of tension.

In the veterinary clinic, the dog was stitched. All this time, Anton was not only with us, but also helped with Gaston. He comforted him, stroked him, held him. And I saw how the dog immediately began to trust him.

Anton offered to give me a ride home. And when we arrived, I, without hesitation, invited him for a cup of tea in order to complete this adventure with a happy ending. Did I think then that I was calling into the house, in fact, a person I did not know? No.

After everything we’ve been through with my fugitive, this guy no longer seems like a stranger. It was easy with him, like he was an old friend. And the fact that the dog was not hurt, jumping around and begging for cookies, let me go. And then the stress still caught up with me, and, pouring tea, I began to cry.

Anton stood up, hugged me, and at that moment I felt an inexplicable calmness and confidence that everything would be fine. Both me and the dog and, as it turned out, the three of us. And Gaston really healed before the wedding. After all, two years later we got married.
