What is a WR study? The WR test is an uncomplicated serological method that detects spirochete antibodies. This is the bacteria that causes syphilis. This disease is sexually transmitted. It is worth noting that there are several types of syphilis. Syphilis is dangerous – especially for pregnant women. In this state, the Wasserman test is usually performed twice.
WR study – what is it?
Only with WR can detect syphilis, which is not a rare disease at all. The Wasserman test is a simple test performed with blood drawn from a vein in the arm. It is quick and gives confidence in our health. It should be noted that if detected, treatment is required throughout the pregnancy.
The screening for syphilis in pregnancy should be performed twice – even if the first test performed was correct. The result of the second examination should be carried by the woman during childbirth. The doctor must be sure that she is not infected. Incorrect results can also come out in various diseases.
WR study – why is syphilis dangerous for mother and child?
Untreated syphilis is dangerous for both mother and baby. It can even lead to his death. Before starting treatment, other tests are required to confirm the diagnosis. The presence of antibodies in the patient’s blood indicates that the infection continues or belongs to those who have already been infected.
WR study – preparation
Special preparation for the WR study is not necessary. It is a simple test that is performed on a previously collected blood sample.
This examination is safe and comfortable.
Some people may feel uncomfortable having to insert the needle. There is no possibility of complications apart from the hematoma appearing at the injection site. If there is a reasonable suspicion that the infection may actually have occurred, the partner should also undergo a WR examination.
- The most common venereal diseases – find out about them all
Syphilis testing should be performed not only by people who have been exposed to risky sexual contacts and by pregnant women.
WR is also performed to check the progress of syphilis treatment.
As syphilis is not a rare disease, it is necessary to test WR frequently.
WR test – negative test result
A negative result of the test performed in a timely manner ensures that the infection did not occur. This does not mean, however, that it cannot happen at a later date. Ideally, you should avoid high-risk sexual contact and other risk-enhancing behavior.
It also happens that a positive WR test result is not associated with the development of syphilis infection, but is the result of e.g. the presence of HIV. If the test result is negative, it may sometimes be necessary to perform more precise tests. Only they are able to confirm that the infection did not actually occur.
