We spend 8 hours at work at the computer, in public transport we do not let go of the phone and often while away our evenings in front of the TV. It is not surprising that the eyes get tired, the eyesight becomes less sharp, and the glasses are transformed from a fashion accessory into a vital item. On the second Thursday of October, the whole world celebrates the Day of Sight. A great occasion to talk about the prevention and elimination of vision problems.
Of course, vision problems are better prevented than eliminated. If your vision is okay, you shouldn’t take it for granted. Spend some time on prevention to keep your eyes sharp for years to come. The simplest recommendations that even a busy person can follow are eating foods that are good for vision and gymnastics for the eyes.
What should you include in your diet to help your eyes under extreme stress? Look for foods rich in vitamin A: apricots, carrots, and blueberries. Make friends with spinach and all kinds of kale. Cook fish and eggs often. You can buy special vitamin complexes for eye health at the pharmacy.
Work and read only in good light. As you focus, rest your eyes and your eyes for five minutes every hour. Do light exercise regularly. For example, exercise “Point”: go to the window, extend your right hand in front of you, it should be at eye level. Concentrate on the tip of your index finger and look at it for 10-15 seconds. Then lower your hand, but do not change the position of your head, give your eyes a rest, look into the distance, do not concentrate your gaze on anything. The duration is also 10-15 seconds. Alternate the steps of the exercise. Exercise “Handle”: take a comfortable position, close your eyes, relax. Let your nose serve as a pen. “Write” with the tip, for example, the phrase “I wish you a good day.”
If you still have vision problems, it’s time to see a doctor. The most common diagnosis now being made by ophthalmologists is myopia. Unfortunately, it cannot be cured. But it is possible and necessary to stop the progression of myopia. First of all, it is necessary to remove its eternal companion – the spasm of accommodation.
There is a whole range of remedies to correct myopia. In addition to glasses, medical, physiological, hardware treatment, exercises for the eyes are used, it is necessary to observe hygiene of vision. The best result can be achieved using all methods in an integrated manner. It is especially important to start treatment of progressive myopia as early as possible. Typically, myopia begins to develop in children between the ages of 8 and 14. It can progress as the body grows. Therefore, it is so important to regularly visit an ophthalmologist.
Another common problem in children is strabismus. There are two types of treatment for strabismus: conservative and surgical. Conservative treatment is aimed at improving visual acuity and restoring the ability of the visual center of the brain to combine two separate images into one whole, to teach the patient to see the world with two eyes, and not as he saw before. Hardware programs include laser and magnetic therapy, electrical stimulation, vacuum massage. Conservative treatment will not be effective without orthoptic and diploptic treatment. There are special computer programs for this purpose. Children perceive treatment as a game, they are happy to do it, follow the cartoon characters through special glasses, connect two pictures together, for example, build a house, put the figures in a basket. Usually, thanks to a fifteen-day course of exercises on apparatus, carried out every 3-5 months, it is possible to restore the lost functions of both eyes. The ultimate goal of comprehensive strabismus treatment is to restore binocular vision. Treatment for strabismus should be started as early as possible, since up to 7 years of age there is a better chance of achieving the desired results. Moreover, the operation is far from the first method of treatment that a pediatric ophthalmologist should offer. Surgical intervention should be resorted to only if all methods of treatment have been tried and there is no desired result. Strabismus surgery has a good cosmetic effect, but does not restore binocular vision.

If your doctor has prescribed glasses for you, do not rush to get upset. Today this fine-tuning assistant can become a very stylish accessory. The main thing is to choose the right frame. Ignore the cheap glasses sold at your local drugstore next to toothpaste and hand cream. And also on dubious copies that are sold right on the street. Find an hour or two free time, take an honest friend with you and visit a store that sells famous brands.
Remember eight simple rules for choosing a spectacle frame to look irresistible:
1. Take an accessory to put your hair up or back.
2. Put on a neutral top, which is not too voluminous. Something like a simple white or black T-shirt that fits around the figure so that all the attention can be focused on the frame.
3. Makeup on this day should be light and natural.
4. When trying on frames, look in a full-length mirror to see how the glasses work with your entire look, not just from crown to chin. Glasses are also an accessory. The choice of all your other accessories, from head to toe, will depend on how to choose the shape of the frame of the glasses and its color.
5. Take risks! Frames in vibrant colors enliven the pale face.
6. Dark frames with a subtle tint lend style to a completely traditional work setting.
7. Tortoiseshell and speckled frames make the face softer.
8. Thick colored plastic frames are acceptable even for the most conservative lady.

Glasses must be selected taking into account the shape of the face, otherwise there is a risk of disrupting the harmony of the image, focusing on the shortcomings. If almost any frame shape is suitable for an oval face, then faces of other common forms require correction. In essence, the correction consists in drawing attention to the area that is not so clearly marked by nature and averting the gaze from too catchy specific features of the structure.
For example, a face that has a narrow forehead and a wide jaw must be decorated with glasses that would give volume to its upper part, visually expanding due to its own width or additional details. The same applies to cases when, for example, a girl has a large mouth, which she likes to emphasize with expressive lipstick.
When the eyes are naturally large and expressive, and the eyebrows are bright, you should not wear glasses with massive frames, which, firstly, make the face heavier, and secondly, does not allow you to consider these advantages. Also try to get frames where the upper part coincides with the line of the eyebrows so that there is no visual crushing of the face with horizontal lines.
And, of course, do not forget that the color of the glasses should be in harmony with your color type. Cool or warm types require a matching rim shade, which also needs to blend in with the eye color.

Age-related changes in vision progress gradually and reach their maximum by the age of 60-65. This makes you buy several glasses at once, some of which are used for reading books, others for working at a computer, and others for “distance” (watching TV, driving). In order not to spend fabulous sums for such a large number of glasses, it is enough to purchase modern universal glasses with progressive lenses.
Glasses are called progressive glasses that allow you to see objects equally clearly at different distances. This is achieved in the following way: the upper part of the lenses is designed for “distance” (TV, driving), and the lower part for near reading. That is, in order to change the clarity of perception of an image from a long distance to a near one, it is enough just to lower your gaze. The middle zone of the lenses does not have a sharp transition and allows you to change focus gradually without unnecessary discomfort.
In practice, it looks like this: the patient uses lenses of + 1,0 Diopters for “distance”, and +3,0 Diopters for reading near. Therefore, the additive will be +2,0 Diopters. In the transition zone, diopters will increase from top to bottom from +1,0 to +3,0 Diopters. It should be noted that the lateral regions of the progression corridor are limited by peripheral distortions.
Progressive glasses have the following benefits:
– You have the opportunity to abandon several pairs of glasses and at the same time see equally clearly at all distances. You can only use one pair of glasses to read a book or watch TV.
– Smooth transition and the absence of sharp jumps between the zones of vision, which are when using bifocal and trifocal lenses.
– Externally, progressive lenses look like ordinary, transparent.
