World Pet Day 2022: the history and traditions of the holiday
Pet Day 2022 in Our Country is dedicated to the devoted and loving “smaller brothers” who need our warmth and care for them. We talk about the history and traditions of the holiday

Pets living side by side with a person need his support, care and care. In return, they give us their affection and the joy of communication. A beloved pet often replaces a loved one for its owner, saving you from loneliness and sadness, relieving stress, and sometimes protecting you from enemies. Few people can love so selflessly and be devoted to their master.

When is Pet Day celebrated in Our Country and the world

World Pet Day is celebrated annually 30 November. It does not apply to public holidays and is not a day off. In 2022, it will be celebrated across the country.

History

Man tamed wild animals back in the Stone Age and immediately began to use them as labor force in cultivating the land, taking them with him to hunt. An interesting fact is that out of 140 thousand species of animals, only 47 thousand managed to be tamed. The first domesticated animal was the wolf, the ancestor of the modern dog. As soon as people realized that the barking of dogs scared away other more dangerous animals from their homes, they began to use dogs as a guard against enemies. Since then, the dog has been man’s best friend and helper. Four-legged friends have repeatedly saved people’s lives, helped to overcome difficulties. Thus, a guide dog plays an important role in the life of a blind person. The first schools for their training arose in Germany. “Guides” helped veterans who became blind during the First World War in everyday life. Today, dogs even have their own passport, which contains all the information about their pedigree, vaccinations and matings, as well as information about the owner.

But the story of the rapprochement between humans and cats is much more complicated. According to one version, the ancient people tamed the cat in order for it to hunt annoying rodents that destroy crops. According to another, cats “tame themselves.” They quickly realized that a person always has food. And where there is food, there are rodents. That is why researchers are still arguing about who tamed whom first: a man a cat, or vice versa. Today, these fluffy pets are among the top three most popular pets for the home.

Back in 1840, Queen Victoria organized the Royal Society, whose tasks were to collect donations for the maintenance of animals and the supervision of those who treated them cruelly. In order to protect pets in 1931, a holiday was approved in Florence – Pet Day. In Our Country, he received his recognition only in 2000, thanks to the support of the International Fund for Animal Welfare. Every year this day is celebrated by all happy owners of pets, veterinarians, dog handlers and those whose activities are aimed at preventing cruelty to defenseless creatures.

In many cities, pet exhibitions and competitions are held, where four-legged participants show their achievements or simply give a good mood to the audience, surprising with their beauty and well-groomed appearance. The winners receive awards and gifts. Cynologists give master classes on training methods, advice on caring for four-legged friends. Shelters hold open days so that everyone has the opportunity to make a new friend. And the owners can please their pet with a treat or a new toy. But the most precious thing that a person can give to an animal is love and care.
