World Nutella Day

Annually, since 2007, it is celebrated World Nutella Day (World Nutella Day), and today this holiday has received international recognition.

The brand “Nutella”, known all over the world and super popular primarily among children, secured a place of honor on the list of world holidays almost immediately. American Sara Rosso, a blogger living in Italy, proposed to hold February 5, 2007 World Nutella Day. The initiative was taken up by millions of fans of this delicious product.

What kind of product is this that has won and continues to win the hearts of millions of children, retaining popularity even when these children become adults?

Nutella is a chocolate-nut spread originally from Italy. The history of its appearance is interesting, and it begins in the post-war years in the Italian city of Alba. In 1946, pastry chef and bakery owner Pietro Ferrero began producing soft chocolate bars called Gianduja, named after one of the local carnival characters. The fact is that the import of cocoa to Italy in the first post-war years was limited. This prompted Pietro Ferrero to use a new ingredient in addition to cocoa butter, which became roasted and ground hazelnuts, which grew in abundance in that region. The soft chocolate and nut bars were enjoyed by the local children and were in great demand.

The further history of the birth of Nutella is a tangle of events, both comic and dramatic at the same time. Many people call such a combination of circumstances fate, some call it fortune. The popularity of “Gianduja” appealed to Ferrero with a large order from the mayor’s office, which was completed on time. But the order prepared and left overnight, in which a large amount of family money was invested, melted from the heat. Therefore, Pietro Ferrero solved the problem in the following way: he began frantically to spread the melted chocolate and nut bars on thin slices of bread, which his wife was cutting at that moment. At the party, Ferrero treated guests to sandwiches with chocolate-nut cream. The pathetic, at first glance, attempt by the pastry chef to save the situation turned into another victory. The cream was taken with a bang. After this incident, Ferrero began to produce and sell a cream (or paste) called “Gianduya”, which instantly gained popularity in Piedmont, and then throughout Italy.

These events led to the fact that 1946 was the actual beginning for the Ferrero company, known all over the world today. Further experiments of the Ferrero family with chocolate-nut spread led to the fact that in 1951 it received a new name Supercrema, and 13 years later, in 1964, Michele Ferrero – the son of Pietro, again making certain changes in the composition of the paste , brought to the market a new product called Nutella.

The popularity of Nutella is such that it allowed the Ferrero company to issue an advertising slogan with the following content: “What would the world be without Nutella?”

In addition to its chocolate-nut spread, Ferrero is known for its other products, including the world-famous Kinder chocolate in its various forms, the refreshing Tic Tac dragee, Raffaello sweets “) and etc.

Today, sales of Nutella’s chocolate-nut spread bring Ferrero up to a third of its income, and in 2007 the pasta itself was one of the 10 simplest ideas that brought billions in revenues.

In 2007, the first celebration of Nutella Day took place in the homeland of the product in Italy. Since then, processions and concerts, flash mobs, celebrations and tasting of all kinds of dishes using Nutella: cakes, pastries, rolls, cocktails, etc. have been organized around the world every year. The number of participants in the celebration of World Nutella Day is only growing. The holiday is held in many cities around the world, including the virtual city of Nutellaville, where you can read poems, recipes and much more dedicated to Nutella.
