When is Motorcyclist Day in 2023

Day of the motorcyclist in 2023 in Our Country will be held 19 of June. The date is unique every time – the holiday is celebrated on the third Monday of the first summer month.

history of the holiday

In 1989, the owner of the American company Aerostich (Aerostich), which was engaged in the production of innovative motorcycle equipment, Andy Goldfine began an informal “Ride to work Day” – “Day riding a motorcycle to work.” In 1992, one of the motorcycle magazines in the United States published an article in which July 22, 1992 was declared a national motorcycle commute day. This is how the holiday, known to us as “World Motorcyclist Day”, appeared.

After some time, the idea was picked up in many countries of both the northern hemisphere and the southern – only with a change in the month of the event, to December, which is more suitable for the motorcycle season in those parts.

In 2000, a non-profit charitable organization, Ride to Work Day, was organized, the purpose of which was to popularize the use of motorcycles and scooters as everyday transport. This organization took over the promotion of Motorcycle Day and declared the first official “Motorcycle Day to Work” on the third Saturday of July 2001. The ideologue of the day, Andy Goldfine, is still a member of this organization. Seven years later, in 2008, the date was moved a month earlier – the third Monday of June, as in many countries July is considered a “wetter” month than June.

Holiday traditions

On this day, motorcyclists who support this event ride a motorcycle to work and for daily activities, hold various flash mobs, and motorcycle clubs organize various shows in order to show the automotive community that a motorcycle is an ordinary means of transportation, while taking up much less space on the road. road and parking than a car and consumes less fuel, and simple urban models are also cheaper than cars. In many countries, the motorcycle has preferential taxation. And in Our Country, for example, in Moscow, motorcycles from 20 to 35 horsepower are taxed at a rate of 15 rubles per horsepower, and city parking is free.

And although the exact numbers of participants in the shares are not known, many people call the Day of the motorcyclist the most massive motorcycle event in the world.

Interesting facts about motorcycles
