Did you think you congratulated your defenders on February 23, and you can calm down on this until next year? No matter how it is, the World Men’s Day is yet to come! You may not have heard of such a holiday, but, meanwhile, it is respected in the UN and other international organizations. Moreover, our compatriot, namely, the first and only president of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, had a hand in the creation of Men’s World Day. Why did he need it and what is the point in general – in our material.

When is World Men’s Day 2022?

The holiday always takes place in November – on the first Saturday of the month. It turns out that World Men’s Day in 2022 will be celebrated 5 November.

history of the holiday

In fact, World Men’s Day is not entirely about celebration and gifts. Rather, it’s not about that at all, because it was created with a very serious purpose and on a scientific basis. It all started with the fact that the writer George Kindel came up with a theory. The male brain, the author argued, is always under the influence of testosterone, hence the manifestations of aggression in the strong half of humanity. It’s good for women – testosterone does not put pressure on them, therefore they are not inclined to aggression, respectively, and society has nothing to condemn young ladies for. It is clear that it turns out somehow unfair. In order to support the stronger sex in positive, rather than aggressive, undertakings, it was proposed to award special awards to its well-deserved representatives. The laureate must, by his actions and achievements, as well as high moral principles, be an example of a real man who can change the world without resorting to violence.

The idea of awards was liked, and in 2000 the World Men’s Day was established on the initiative of the Vienna Magistrate and the leadership of the UN office in Vienna. Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, who was approached by the organizers, was elected president of World Men’s Day.

The award in honor of the holiday was awarded until 2006. It was a small bronze copy of Rodin’s sculpture The Thinker. Many figures of politics, science, business and art became its laureates. The winners of the award were, for example, ex-president of Poland Lech Walesa, Paul McCartney, Luciano Pavarotti, Michael Jackson, tycoons Ted Turner and Richard Branson, actors Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman, Alain Delon and even Pope John Paul II.

Related Holidays

In addition to World Men’s Day, there is also International Men’s Day. Yes, they are different holidays. International Men’s Day is also celebrated in November, however, in this case, the date is fixed, this is the 19th.

It is celebrated in more than 60 countries of the world, and International Men’s Day appeared in the exotic state of Trinidad and Tobago, which is located on the islands in the Caribbean. Its initiator, Dr. Jerome Tilucsingh of the University of the West Indies, also decided to fight injustice: “There is Father’s Day, and that’s good,” he said. “But who will support boys and childless men?” At the same time, the doctor slightly illogically chose the birthday of his own dad as the date of the holiday.

The goal of International Men’s Day is essentially the same as that of its “brother” in name – to draw society’s attention to discrimination against men in the field of medicine, family law, education and demonstrate the most important male achievements for the benefit of this very society. Every year a certain theme of the holiday is chosen – most often it concerns the problems of preserving men’s health.

Interesting facts: how men differ from women

  • Scientists have found that women adapt to environmental changes faster than men. For example, when moving to a cold area from hot countries, the female body adapts to frost more easily. But on the other hand, representatives of the stronger sex perceive dangerous situations more calmly; panic, unlike ladies, is not characteristic of them. Therefore, men take risks more often.
  • The sense organs in women – vision, especially peripheral, smell, hearing – are better developed than in men. In addition, ladies pay more attention to details, while gentlemen focus on the whole image.
  • And, of course, the process of perception of reality is different for us. According to a number of scientists, women process all sources of information about the world at once, while men think linearly, sequentially. Yes, this is the very contradiction of intuition and logic in action. The weaker sex is also more empathic. Simply put, girls are better than boys at empathizing with others.
