Although, of course, the history of ice cream as a product goes back to ancient times. About 3000 years ago, China made refreshing dishes from a mixture of ice, snow and pieces of fruit. Later, a recipe for mixing milk and ice, kept in strict secrecy, appeared there. They made their own refreshing desserts both in Ancient Israel and in Greece. They were more like what is now called frozen juice.

The recipe for the use of frozen milk in Europe appeared only in the 14th century, apparently in Italy. In France, the recipe appeared in the 16th century, and the classic ice cream created on the basis of milk appeared there, but already in the 18th century. The name “ice cream” also came from France (in the place of its appearance – Plombier-le-Bem). Here, in the 19th century, not only ice cream but also ice cream cups became widespread.

But – this is a product created in the United States at the beginning of the 20th century. Ice cream got there in the 18th century along with settlers. This type of ice cream was invented by the American Christian Nelson, who began to glaze ice cream with chocolate and called his invention “Eskimo pie” (Eskimo pie). Wafer cups also appeared here.

Austrian confectioners gave the world chocolate ice cream, and Italian confectioners – sorbet, which, however, although it belongs to cool desserts, is not ice cream as such.

In Russia, they also made refreshing delicacies according to their own recipes. They were based on frozen milk, cottage cheese, sour cream with the addition of other ingredients. In the mid-1930s, the USSR People’s Commissar for Food, during a visit to the United States, became interested, among other things, in ice cream, the idea of which he successfully implemented in the USSR, where the quality of the product always remained very high and was recognized even abroad. Ice cream has become one of the most affordable delicacies in the Soviet Union, and its taste still remains an element of nostalgia for many who have tasted it at least once, as well as a standard when comparing the taste of modern ice cream. Ice cream is also part of a wonderful refreshing milkshake, which also became widespread in the era of the USSR.
