When is Flight Attendant Day celebrated in 2022 in Our Country and the world
World Flight Attendant Day has a fixed date – in 2022, as always, it will be celebrated July 12.
History and traditions of the holiday
In some cases, it is impossible to find out what exactly the date of the professional holiday is connected with. However, for many it does not matter at all. The main thing is that the day is present in the calendar. So it is with the July World Guides Day. It is celebrated by representatives of a specialty that has experienced a real gender revolution in its development.
Germany claims the laurels of the founders of the holiday, as well as the profession itself. Like many other specialties, the profession of the first heavenly steward was tried on by men. In 1928, a steward worked for the first time on a miniature Junkers of the German company Luftganza. With the rapid development of civil aviation, the functions of a person serving passengers in the cabin during a long flight have become simply necessary. If earlier these assignments could be performed by a co-pilot, then the increase in air traffic and their range required a specially trained person to work with air passengers.
However, it was from the profession of the co-pilot, as the story goes, that the profession of a flight attendant eventually grew. They decided to adopt the experience of the Germans in America. There, the history of the specialty began with a nurse, Helen Church from San Francisco, who wanted to take piloting lessons. Then the bosses of the Boeing company suggested that the medical worker forget about the helm of the ship and become a kind of guardian angel of the passenger compartment. Naturally, Helen’s first profession, with all the collisions that accompany long-haul flights, came in handy as well as possible. The girl was instructed to form the first squad of stewardesses from her nurse friends. So it was supposed to transfer the functions of the owner of the air show to the fragile female shoulders.
Currently, of course, male stewards also work on airlines, although it is more common to see the fair sex in this. As a rule, flight attendants and flight attendants meet their professional holiday, taking off from the ground. Such is this profession! And the international status of the holiday provides for the most diverse forms of celebration in various countries of the world.
Flight attendant profession in Our Country
The name of the first domestic flight attendant is known. Elsa Gorodetskaya performed her duties for the first time on the difficult long-distance flight Moscow-Ashgabat on May 5, 1939. Moreover, at first Elsa was not even called a flight attendant, but a storekeeper or barmaid. In fact, the girl also performed the functions of a cleaning lady in the salon. According to Gorodetskaya’s memoirs, she arrived at the airport long before departure with a huge suitcase full of dishes. And in the restaurant of the “air gate” of the capital, the girl was purchased with provisions for the entire thirteen-hour route with two transfers.
The flight attendant Nadezhda Kurchenko is more famous. On October 15, 1970, at the cost of her life, she helped prevent the hijacking of a plane to Turkey by Pranas Brazinkas and his son Algirdas. Nadezhda was posthumously awarded the Order of the Red Banner. In a couple of months, the girl was to be married. The well-known Soviet hit “My Clear Star” is associated with the feat of Nadezhda Kurchenko, allegedly written from the words of her fiancé.
Flight attendant profession in creativity
In general, the theme of fearless and beautiful flight attendants is very popular in our songwriting and film art. The song of Vladimir Vysotsky about the princess-stewardess, reliable, like the entire civilian fleet, is probably known to everyone.
The fact that the profession of flight attendants, like all specialties in aviation, is extremely dangerous is also reminiscent of one of the first domestic films on this topic: “Once again about love” with Tatyana Doronina.
No less popular is the heroine of Elena Proklova – Larisa Ivanovna from the cult film “Mimino”, as well as the phrase “I want Larisa Ivanovna!” performed by Vakhtang Kikabidze.
The performers of the role of stewardess Tamara in the first Soviet blockbuster “The Crew” by Alexander Yakovlev subsequently began working at St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport. In the contemporary remake of the same name, Alexandra Yakovleva plays a cameo role as an airport official, Tamara, thus providing a link to the 1979 production.
