Everyone knows the catchphrase “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”. Did you know that blond girls recently have their own holiday? We will tell you when and how the Day of Blondes is celebrated in 2023

Everyone has heard jokes about blondes at least once. But no one suspected that jokes about hair color could lead to a new holiday. World Blonde Day is a response to undeserved ridicule about the intellectual abilities of blond ladies.

When is World Blonde Day 2023?

World Blonde Day is celebrated every year. 31 May.

history of the holiday

The origin of the holiday is rooted in sexism in the workplace and misogyny towards blonde girls. American women lawyers and barristers have faced the fact that male colleagues are not perceived as equals and hindered their career advancement. The girls did not tolerate offensive jokes about their hair color and created their own holiday. They started talking about him on July 9, 2001. This year the first parade took place.

In 2003, the International Association of Blondes invited UNESCO to establish a holiday. The initiative was not supported by all members of the organization, but, nevertheless, the holiday spread throughout the world. It has been celebrated in Our Country since 2006.

Holiday traditions

The purpose of the holiday is the fight against stereotypes about blondes, and in a global sense – the fight for equality. Since 2001, festive parades, processions, festivals, competitions, flash mobs and meetings with blond celebrities have been held.

In Our Country, on this day, a special award is awarded – “Diamond Hairpin”. The first ceremony took place in 2006 in Moscow, in the Novinsky Passage. By the way, this is the first special award for blondes.
