An interesting way of producing alcohol was recently announced by Japanese scientists. Specialists of the Research Institute of Forestry and Forest Products spoke about the fact that in the near future they will please with alcohol made from wood.
The fact is that tree-based drinks have a similar taste to alcohol that is aged in wood barrels. This is what makes experts seriously assess the competitiveness of the new drink.
How does he prepare? The wood is crushed into a thick paste, yeast and enzymes are added to it, the fermentation process begins. The lack of heating of the drink (unlike traditional methods) helps to preserve the specific flavors of each tree.
At the moment, scientists have managed to create alcoholic beverages from cedar, birch and cherry. So, for example, 4 kg of cedar wood made it possible to obtain 3,8 liters of a drink with an alcohol content of 15%, while this drink is very similar to the Japanese favorite sake.
The developers expect that within the next three years, “woody” alcohol will already appear on store shelves. Well, we are waiting.
