Woman gave birth 7 years after menopause

Tess Morten is an ordinary 47-year-old British woman, married with no children. She and her husband, 52-year-old Neil Morten, really wanted children. Countless number of tests, hormone therapy, three IVF attempts, in seven years 20 thousand pounds spent on treatment. All to no avail. More precisely, there was one result, but not what Tess and Neal had hoped for – early menopause. The climax came when the woman was barely 40 years old. Now, instead of drugs designed to help get pregnant, Tess was taking medications to relieve hot flashes.

The medicine seemed to help. But in the last three or four months, things have gone awry. Tess felt tired, overwhelmed, her stomach ached, all the time it seemed that he was swollen because of something. Doctors suspected ovarian cancer. They sent the frightened woman for an ultrasound scan and gently hinted that it was worth preparing for the worst.

“The doctor who did the ultrasound was looking at the monitor, running the scanner over my stomach. And suddenly she said: “Your ovaries are in order. But just look at this, “- and turned the monitor to me,” – recalls Tess.

The woman looked at the monitor and saw … a child. “That’s mine?” Tess stammered. She could not believe her eyes – after all, she was almost 50, behind her menopause and fruitless attempts to get pregnant. Tess began to cry.

In due time, the daughter of Tess and Neela Molly was born – 3750 grams, a healthy wonderful baby.

Experts suggested that ovulation may have resumed due to the fact that Tess was taking medications to relieve menopause. But still seven years after menopause? Incredible.

“The chance of getting pregnant after menopause is microscopic, even with hormone replacement therapy,” said Dr. Gita Nargun, director of the center for reproductive medicine at St. George’s Hospital in London.

By the way, Tess is not the oldest mom to give birth after menopause. In 1997, 59-year-old Don Brook became a sensation – she was also on hormone replacement therapy when she became pregnant and gave birth to an absolutely healthy boy.
