It all started with a small lump in the chest. Ended up with the removal of a tumor the size of a fist.
Amy Doach has always taken care of her health. And I didn’t even neglect to check the breast for the presence of foreign seals. One day she groped for a lump. She was very small and soft. The doctors reassured her: they said that the education was benign and was unlikely to bother her. And so it was – for two whole years.
When Amy turned 24, she became pregnant. Together with her husband Joe, they were expecting their first child – a girl. But pregnancy turned into a real hell for Amy.
The tumor, which Amy had forgotten to think about, suddenly began to grow. It was no longer a harmless pea. At first it grew to the size of a quail egg, then a tennis ball. She was so sick that Amy could not sleep.
– My doctor was no longer sure that the tumor was benign. But it is very difficult to diagnose breast cancer during pregnancy. It was impossible to remove the tumor, because the operation had to be done under general anesthesia. It could harm the child, ” Amy told Femail magazine.
The doctors decided to wait for the safety of the unborn baby. The swelling in Amy’s chest, meanwhile, kept growing and growing. It was already a huge bump the size of a fist, covered in veins. The pain was almost unbearable.
And here it is – time X. At a period of seven and a half months, Amy was sent for surgery. Everything went well – the bump was cut out. A histological examination showed that the young woman really has cancer, a rare type of it called phyloid cystosarcoma. It affects the connective tissues of the breast and accounts for only 1 percent of all breast cancers. The most effective way to treat it is a mastectomy. That is, breast removal.
Six weeks after the operation, Amy had a daughter. The girl was named Alexi. She was absolutely healthy – to the incredible happiness of her parents. Amy herself now has regular visits to the oncologist. So far, she has managed to avoid a mastectomy. But doctors do not exclude that it may still be needed.
“If I get pregnant again, I’ll have to be on my guard all the time. Cancer can return, and it will develop very quickly, added Amy.
