The chub is a red-finned predator that can feed on both animal and plant food. Like many white predators, the chub is located in the upper layers of the water, picking up fallen insects and their larvae from the surface. They catch the “redfin” with fly fishing, bottom gear and, of course, spinning. A wobbler is considered one of the most effective baits, however, it is not so easy to choose a high-quality model that would work on a river dweller.
What does a chub lure look like
Modern wobblers are made of durable plastic, although the first models were made of wood. Plastic is more prone to wear, there are times when a weighty trophy pulls the hook out of the structure, thereby killing the bait. Wooden wobblers can only be found among craftsmen who create them with their own hands.

Sinking models and suspenders are recommended for use in case of high passivity of the chub. They can be tasted both in rapids and in the middle reaches, however, standing water areas, bays and slow return flows remain the best conditions for products.

The diet of the chub includes many living creatures: fry, beetles falling from trees, winged insects and their larvae, tadpoles and small frogs. Based on this, the shape of the baits may vary. Narrow-bodied models imitate bleak – the main prey of the handsome redfin, “pot-bellied” and rounded products are similar to insects. The specifics of the wiring also depend on the choice of bait. It is important for the fisherman to feed the artificial bait in such a way that it copies the movements of natural organisms living under water or trapped in water as best as possible.
Many chub lures are sport-rigged with a single, round, but beardless, fine-wire hook. It perfectly sticks into the fleshy mouth of a white predator, injures it less, such a fish is almost always easy to release and release. The main nuance of a beardless hook is in a high percentage of gatherings. Of course, the hook can be changed if the catch gets into the food. However, you can not take all the fish, often a small predator bites, which should be released. Criteria for choosing a wobbler for chub
The well-known list of fishing lures does not work on every body of water. The chub is a whimsical predator, so its high density does not indicate a good bite. It is necessary to select catchy products in practice. Often the main role is played by the features of the area. The same bait can only work in a specific water area, in other places the chub will not even approach the wobbler. This is associated with the transparency of the water, the depth of fishing, the food supply and other features that distinguish the water areas.

- bait size;
- form models;
- color spectrum;
- manufacturer and label;
- the presence of capsules;
- deepening;
- the quality of the hook and blade insertion.
The chub feeds on small objects, so the difficulty of catching it is that you have to use delicate tackle with a miniature bait when fighting large fish. The size of chub wobblers rarely exceeds 5 cm. The weight of the bait is selected according to the rod test. Miniature models require the use of light tackle with a thin cord so that the wobbler can be delivered to a promising area.

In the middle of spring, when the water becomes clear, spinners use dark colors. Brown, black and dark green models are used with bright spots on the sides, natural eyes and traced gill covers. Chub wobblers do not dive deep, because the search is carried out in the upper layer of water. Of course, at certain moments the fish is at the bottom, for example, before spawning. However, it is difficult to get a chub with an artificial bait during this period, active fishing begins when the fish rises higher.
A wobbler should be selected based on the conditions on the reservoir:
- season and time of day;
- water transparency;
- current forces;
- wind direction;
- depth and activity of fish.
A passive white predator responds better to nondescript dark baits. The black color is perfectly visible in clear water on a sunny day, the fish notices it from afar. The chub responds well to a splash, so a lot of bites happen on the first meters of wiring. The more often the angler changes wobblers, the higher the probability of interest of the predator. It happens that the fish reacts to the bait, but does not take it. Subsequent casts reduce interest in the wobbler if it is not replaced. It is worth experimenting with colors, size and shape, because you never know what mood the fish is in.
Classification of chub wobblers
Each artificial nozzle has a number of its own characteristics. A set of certain qualities allows you to use the product in specific conditions, so with you, in a fishing box, you should have a wide selection of different types of lures.
Wobblers for chub can be divided by shape:
- Minow. It has an elongated body that imitates bleak and other small fish. Minows are more popular when catching asp, but they can also provoke a chub to attack. The lack of form is in its mass. A small wobbler has a small weight, and with an increase in size, the likelihood of a bite decreases.
- Fet. It means “thick” in English. Small feta or “pot-bellied” wobblers have sufficient mass and excellent reach, they are mobile, keep the flow and play dynamically on the stream.
- Crank. It has a diamond-shaped body, flies well over long distances, therefore it is popular in those places where the fish stands far from the coastline. Cranks tend to go deeper than other models with the same blade angle. Light baits work great in spring and early summer.
- Crawler. This lure does not have a blade, referring to the corresponding class. Crawlers have a lively game on the surface, imitating the movements of a beetle trapped in water.
Other types can also be used in smaller sizes, such as sheds. In some cases, walkers, which are a bladeless type of bait, work on an active predator. Walkers have a chaotic game on the surface, which also attracts a white predator.
In places where chub is caught, pike rarely comes across, but if there is a chance of meeting a toothy beauty, you should equip the rig with a fluorocarbon leash.
Among all varieties of baits, there are three 4 main types of colors:
- natural, imitating some kind of fish or insect;
- light, used in muddy water;
- acid, which provokes a predator to attack;
- with a holographic effect in the form of a sticker.
Natural colors can border on “acid” in one box. Some spinningists adhere to the rule of inconspicuousness, they believe that the white predator is too shy and is better caught on an inconspicuous model. The chub has a well-developed lateral line and peripheral vision, thanks to which it notices prey from afar. The fish is able to feel the presence of the angler, who is standing on the shore in light clothes, which is why he often refuses to bite.
