This mushroom, as a rule, has a small cap, the diameter of which is usually 2-5 cm, but sometimes it can reach 10 cm, flatly convex, in some cases with a depression. Coloring can be brownish, yellow-brown or grayish-brown. The edges of the cap are usually curved.
The lower part is represented by a small-tubular white hymenophore, which descends along the stem. Over time, it becomes creamy. Spore powder white.
Tinder fungus winter has a long and thin leg (up to 10 cm long and 1 cm thick). It is velvety, hard, gray-yellow or brown-chestnut in color.
The pulp of the mushroom is dense in the stem and elastic in the body, later it becomes hard, leathery, its color is white or yellowish.
The mushroom can be found in spring (from early to mid-May) and also in late autumn. It breeds on the wood of deciduous trees such as linden, willow, birch, rowan, alder, as well as on decaying trees buried in the soil. The caps of young specimens are suitable for eating, they are mostly dried or used fresh.
