Winter diet threatens colds and flu

According to a study by the University of Michigan in the USA, mice fed a calorie-restricted diet have a high risk of death during the first days after infection with the common cold. Even while maintaining adequate levels of vitamins and minerals in the diet, a 40% decrease in calorie intake can turn into not the desired slimness, but a serious illness.

In winter, our body is especially susceptible to viral attack due to the lack of adequate protection in the form of antibodies due to lack of sunlight, vitamins and physical activity. The body is supported by cells that kill the virus, especially in the early stages of infection, doctors explain. If the body does not receive the cells it needs to fight, it is not ready to fight off disease. With a limited diet, it takes more time for the body to recover, and the susceptibility to colds and flu increases significantly. In winter, the human body must have a reserve of substances necessary to protect health, and diet undermines the work of immune functions and prevents recovery from illness.
