Wine tourism is a rising value in the travel sector in Spain. This is collected by the latest data presented by the Spanish Association of Wine Cities (Acevin), which shows a figure during 2015 of a total of 2.242.941 visitors, who came to our country to follow a route related to this famous potion. Or, what is the same, an increase of 5,59% compared to 2014.
The ranking of the most visited routes in Spain is led by Penedés Wine and Cava Route Penedés wine tourism (464.825) and Brandy del Marco de Jerez Wine Routes (449.326), almost both reach half a thousand visitors … Catalan wineries continue to lead the table despite suffering a slight decrease compared to last year.
The top-5 of the national wine tourism destinations are also completed with considerable numbers of visits, the Routes of Ribera del Duero, Rioja Alta and Rioja AlavesaTaking into account in the latter that La Rioja wine tourism always has a privileged place in these lists because the region is closely linked to a land of wines.
In addition, other routes not so well known, but not for that less interesting, such as those of the Bierzo, Bullas, Montilla-Moriles or Ronda, that have grown more than 30% over the last year.
Regarding seasons, the phases of more movement occur throughout the autumn and spring, and in the case of the summer months, there is a significant growth in the number of people compared to other occasions, but still far of the figures of the season before and after the summer.
The individual costs of the enortourism activity
Regarding the cost that the tourist or visitor to a winery must face, this is around 7 euros on average, while the cost in the store, without taking into account the entrance fee, the amount spent on purchases is around the 18 euros.
If, on the contrary, we focus the cost within the wine museums, the expense is reduced, since an average ticket is somewhat below, around 3,50 euros, with the average expense in the place approaching almost 5 euros.
Regarding the volume of business produced by the activity in a complete fiscal year, the wineries and wine museums adhering to Wine Routes of Spain generated a not inconsiderable amount of 49 million euros, a figure that is 15% more than in the previous period of 2014.
Figures to which should be added what each visitor spends in accommodation, restaurants or shops, with which the turnover generated by wine tourism would be even higher, providing a development of national productive activity not only located in the wineries, but also in the surroundings of the villages, municipalities and cities that are oriented towards this new trend of Gastronomic leisure that triumphs more and more in Spain.
